The MSW provides assessment, treatment and evaluation of individual, interpersonal and societal problems through the use of social knowledge and skills, interventions and strategies with the goal of assisting individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities to achieve optimum psychosocial and social functioning. Social Work services will be provided in a collaborative and inter-professional clinical team environment that reflects recovery/client-centered care principles and values.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW).
- Current registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and thorough knowledge of the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice documents.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certificate.
- Current SMG (Safe Management Group) or Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training.
- Knowledge of social work values and ethics, theory and established practices of clinical social work, and competency in clinical practice, including assessment, treatment and crisis intervention.
- Proven ability to utilize social work best practices and research evidence in meeting the needs of individuals with mental health issues.
- Integrates reflection, critical thinking, education and relevant practical experience in problem solving.
- Knowledge of the major classifications of mental illnesses and the main classifications of psychotropic medications, including their general use, expected response, and common side effects.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation.
- Understanding of the social determinants of health, and the social consequences and risk factors associated with serious mental illnesses (e.g., homelessness, suicide, stigma, addiction, involvement with the criminal justice system).
Knowledge of family systems, family dynamics and demonstrated skill in working with families.
- Knowledge of community systems and resources for the purpose of networking between the facility/program and other services.
- Understanding of diversity as it affects different populations and service delivery, including, but not limited to, gender, sexual identity, ethnicity, First Nations, spirituality and race.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills (written and verbal).
- Demonstrated group facilitation skills.
- Ability to diffuse conflict and foster collaborative working relationships.
- Able to work both independently and as part of the multi-disciplinary team.
- Willingness and ability to continue to improve professional competence and knowledge.
- Applies Niagara Health values and professional practice standards to patient/client care and service.
- Working knowledge of computers.
- Consistent and regular attendance required.
- Proficiency in both official languages (English & French) will be considered an asset.
