Detailed Overview:
Within the context of a patient and family centered care model, reporting to the Manager, Clinical Operations or designate, this position performs a variety of duties in support of the Emergency Department. Provides reception services; schedules and books a variety of outpatient appointments, follow up visits, tests and referrals; prepares and maintains patient charts, obtains and enters patient information into relevant systems, and processes and transcribes physician orders. Provides support in the clinical setting in accordance with established procedures by setting up and maintaining examination rooms, taking and/or recording vital signs (weight, temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiration), and collecting specimens and/or performing routine lab tests such as urine tests for protein and/or glucose. Maintains office supplies and filing systems, and types a variety of technical and non-technical documents.

**Responsibilities**:

- Schedules and books a variety of outpatient appointments by receiving appointment requests or referrals, making follow up appointments, adjusting arrangements as directed in accordance with patient and facility requirements and assigning to the appropriate time, date and location. Arranges patient diagnostic tests. Maintains appointment calendars by arranging and confirming appointments. Prepares and distributes clinic appointment schedules.
- Receives patient and obtains/confirms information required to register the patient; registers patient in the computerized system and completes related registration documentation. Prepares and escorts patients to exam rooms.
- Assembles and maintains patient charts; inputs patient data and information into relevant systems, charts in electronic health record systems. Attaches documents to charts such as laboratory and special examination reports; files charts and forwards to Health Records as required.
- Takes and/or records patient vital signs such as weight, temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiration by methods such as electronic scale, ear thermometer, or electronic blood pressure cuff in accordance with established procedures; records on patient chart as required.
- Collects specimens and/or performs routine lab tests such as urine tests for protein and/or glucose by procedures such as using colour coded dip sticks.
- Telephones and/or transmits test results and other medical information to patients, physicians and others according to established procedures.
- Prioritizes, processes, coordinates and transcribes physician orders such as requests for x-rays, MRI/CT scans, ultrasounds, and blood work, by performing duties such as completing requisitions and liaising with the appropriate clinic, unit or department to make arrangements in accordance with established procedures.
