Job Summary:
To manage the plant production activities; directly supervise the activities of the front line quarry production employees charged with the performance and verification of production activities throughout the department to ensure manufacturing of products in scheduled quantities, at budgeted cost and acceptable quality; manage, participate & adhere conformance to the company safety & environmental programs; responsible to identify and initiate actions to prevent the occurrence of any nonconformities relating to product or process; oversee the loading of raw materials into the operation as well shipments and distribution of finished goods, materials.

Responsibilities & Duties:

- Provide leadership to ensure all company safety rules, and regulations in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act are observed by all employees. This includes providing a safe workplace, planning the necessary resources in manpower and budgeting to accomplish site safety goals.
- Ensures regulatory compliance with environmental regulations for the facility.
- Interface with MOL and other governing agencies.
- Follow up investigations working with Safety Committee, and others as needed.
- Monitor safety program and its effectiveness.
- Implementation and maintenance of the management system as well as ensuring the Management System is effective and well understood by all employees. Monitor the program including nonconformance resolution. Develop corrective action plans for prevention of future customer complaints.
- Preparation and implementation of training plans to provide employees with the necessary training to perform their job safely and effectively.
- Supervise employee tasks to meet sales, production, training and maintenance requirements.
- Manage employee, environmental and public relation concerns on the off-shifts.
- Know and follow the collective agreement.
- Assign weekly schedules and employee assignments to meet sales, production, training and maintenance requirements. Ensure quality of product during process.
- Work closely with the Process Engineer and Maintenance Team to maximize quarry efficiency and minimize unscheduled down time.
- Supervise loading of truck shipments.
- Ensure the execution of the daily production plan. Schedule necessary arrangements to keep plant running during breakdowns.
- Generate maintenance request notifications as needed.
- Routinely monitor key performance indicators identifying opportunities for improvement and making appropriate supervisory and management personnel aware of the findings.
- Attend and provide input during the daily continuous improvement meeting.
- Explain significant variances from daily plan and recommend changes that will upgrade the running of the shift.
- Review barriers identified during shift turn over meetings to develop and monitor action plans to overcome the obstacles.
- Participate in the daily morning production meeting to communicate with production and maintenance.
- Provide technical and tactical support to the Site Operations Manager and Maintenance Team to support operational objectives.
- Provide plant security.
- Monitor workload to evaluate the staffing levels.
- Initiate, recommend or provide solutions through designated channels.
- Verify the effectiveness of solutions within area of responsibility.
- Documentation and maintenance of records.

Job Qualifications:

- Minimum of 5 years related experience of direct production supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment with focus on quality, safety, environmental matters, process & people; industry background in manufacturing related to mining, paper mills, steel plants, refractory, heavy equipment fabrication, stone processing, cement plants, etc., highly preferred;
- Strong material management skills; must be results driven & a self starter;
- Positive & proactive attitude with ability to address issues and implement solutions as required; easily understands & follow directions;
- Detail & process oriented with strong problem resolution abilities; quarrying experience, a plus; willing and able to work shifts;
- Experience in dealing with Provincial and Federal regulatory agencies and how they impact the safety and environmental aspects of the business;
- Must be able to work in a team environment and willing and able to adapt to fast-paced changing environments;
- Good solid management skills with strong communication and interpersonal skills;
- Must be organized, able to multi-task, problem-solve and have good computer skills, SAP preferred.
