**Position Title**: Early Childhood Vision Consultant (ECVC)

**Program**: Blind Low Vision (BLV) (Specialized Preschool Programs)

**Department**: Children and Family Services

**Status**: Regular Part-time

**Hours**: 21 hours/week

**Pay Scale**: $28.32/hr to $33.32/hr

Role

The ECVC provides family-centered parent support in the home environment focusing on the knowledge and skills of parents/caregivers in supporting the individual developmental needs of the child with visual impairment. Develops functional strategies to support the child's learning with emphasis on the development of visual, tactile, auditory, and orientation and mobility skills. Supports other professionals and staff in community-based early learning and childcare settings to enhance their capacity to understand and respond to the developmental issues of the child and promote the child’s inclusion into community based programs.

Reporting Relationship
This position reports to the Manager of Specialized Preschool Programs.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- May include, but are not limited to:

- Interviewing families to determine needs, services and resources related to their child’s sensory functioning and impact on development
- Orienting the family to services provided by SPC, and regional service agencies as appropriate
- Assisting in identifying and making referrals to access resources or services based on the identified needs and priorities of the interdisciplinary team
- Analysis of the child’s sensory function and development and environment considerations in order provide recommendations for inclusion in a program plan to maximize the child’s access to the learning environment
- Collaborating with parents/caregiver(s) and other professionals to identify strengths and needs of the child, family and community in order to highlight priorities leading to the development of a plan for implementation
- Participate in the development, implementation and monitoring of family service plans as part of an inter-disciplinary team
- Support other Specialized Preschool Programs (First Words and Infant Hearing) as needed (e.g., Infant hearing screenings, speech-language material prep)

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education
- University Degree in Early Childhood Education, or Diploma in Early Childhood Education from an accredited college program and experience working with children who have special needs.

Professional Experience
- Three years’ experience working in the field of Early Childhood Education including experience working with children with special needs

Key Competencies
- Experience working as a member of an interdisciplinary team
- Valid Ontario Driver’s License in good standing
- This position requires use of a vehicle and travel within Eastern Ontario
- Proficient with Microsoft Office 2010
- Fluency is French is preferred
