**Docking Superintendent**:
The Docking Superintendent is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all aspects associated with docking and berthing vessels at the Esquimalt Graving dock facility. Responsibilities include supporting the planning, supervising the preparations, and coordinating the execution of all docking and berthing evolutions at Victoria Shipyards Co. Ltd. The incumbent shall provide departmental leadership, direction, and motivation through senior chargehands and chargehands, ensuring that acceptable efficiency and quality levels are consistently maintained. The incumbent shall provide the initiative and direction for continued process improvement within the Docking department and shall cultivate a demeanor of co-operation with other VSL departments.

**Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at Victoria Shipyards at 825 Admirals Road in Victoria, B.C.**

**What you’ll do**
- Partners with other Superintendents to ensure trade workers have the skills, equipment, training, and certifications required to perform planned work activities.
- Work with production managers and superintendents to support the planning and execution of berthing vessels alongside and /or docking vessels.
- Responsible for decisions relating to the termination of employment, as well as responsible for the promotion and/or demotion of bargaining unit employees.
- Follows and implements the collective agreement and management practices to handle labor optimally.
- Responsible for timekeeping administration of direct reports and indirect reports.
- Ensures work progression in accordance with safety, quality, cost, and schedule.
- Directly responsible for the safety of all reporting trades employees.
- Strives to eliminate safety hazards at every opportunity along with all reporting employees.
- Responsible for interpreting and assigning work instructions, and ensuring they are completed in a timely manner.
- Allocates workforce in accordance with schedule and/or priorities emergency break down work, assigning workers with the skill and ability to efficiently complete scheduled work.
- Responsible for all team, including performance/attendance management, termination of employment, as well as promotion and/or demotion of bargaining unit employees
- Ensure all employees are provided with a work environment that is encouraging and harassment free.
- Works with Facilities personnel to ensure trade equipment is maintained and procured in an efficient manner.
- Works with disability and rehabilitation consultants in assisting injured employees to return to work on graduated return by identifying appropriate tasks and conditions.
- Other duties as assigned.

**What you’ll bring**
- College degree and/or trades certification. Multi-ticketed is an asset.
- Minimum 5 years of related work experience in an industrial maintenance environment; or advanced education in a related field with 2 years related work experience.
- Previous supervisory experience an asset
- Proficient knowledge of trade responsibilities specific to heavy manufacturing industry with respect to preventative maintenance, and emergency break down repairs. (Welding, metal fabrication, electrical, pipefitting, paint/sandblasting, mechanical, rigging).
- Possess strong interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
- Able to build an effective team and lead change.
- Possess excellent management and leadership skills and the ability to empower and work with and through others to achieve desired results.
- Appreciates and understands the value of diversity within a team.
- Conflict resolution and negotiations skills to resolve disagreements quickly and optimally, bring a problem-solving attitude to conflicting approaches and priorities involving others.
- Strong written, verbal, and electronic interpersonal skills
- Demonstrates ability to make mature and timely job site decision
