This position resides in the Operations Division of the Environmental Assessment Office, which is responsible for assessing the impacts of major projects, building relationships with First Nations, conflict resolution, negotiation of agreements, liaison with other land and resource ministries, and local support for negotiations and agreement implementation. The position reports to a Band 4, Project Assessment Director within the Indigenous Partnerships and Engagement Branch (Branch) of the Operations Division.

The Environmental Assessment Office (EAO) of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy (Ministry) is a stand-alone, neutrally administered regulator that undertakes rigorous, thorough reviews of major projects in British Columbia.

The Operations Division is responsible for the delivery of environmental assessments (EA) which require extensive and increasingly complex engagement with Indigenous nations, provincial and federal government agencies, the public and industry. The Division is responsible for delivering EAs in a manner that advances reconciliation and sustainable economic development and ensures that the environmental, economic, social, health, and cultural effects from proposed major projects are understood and managed.

**Job Requirements**:

- A degree in a related field (e.g., law, Indigenous studies, anthropology, geography, environmental studies/science, public administration/policy, forestry, natural resource management), and five (5) years of related experience OR;
- An equivalent combination of education and/or professional experience may be considered.

Related experience must include all of the following:
- Experience in leading or participating in, consultations/negotiations/engagement with First Nations.
- Experience leading teams and coordinating the work for other professional employees, and/or consultants.
- Experience in conflict resolution and developing consensus based solutions to resolving issues.
- Experience conducting policy analysis and development.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- Significant experience in the natural resource Sectors (mining, oil and gas development, electricity and alternative energy).
- Experience building and maintaining relationships with First Nations communities, other government agencies and stakeholders.
- Experience managing multiple projects or leading a component (e.g., sub-project) of a major project using project management principles.
- Experience conducting complex research and analysis related to land use, resource management, and social or economic development issues.
- Experience developing solutions and approaches to addressing issues surrounding the social and historical context facing First Nations in British Columbia.
- Experience working with Indigenous peoples on reconciliation initiatives related land and resources.
