**DESCRIPTION**:

- 1. General

The incumbent of this position is directly responsible to the Operations Supervisor and is required to provide carpentry, general maintenance and production services for the Operational Services Department. The incumbent is frequently required to work with limited supervision and must possess initiative and good judgment.

2. Key Accountabilities

A. Priority 1: Fabrication
To fabricate new cabinetry/exhibitry for the museum galleries, offices and other public spaces.
i. Perform the tasks normally associated with the carpentry/cabinetmaking trade.
ii. Provide functional or technical guidance or informal training or instruction to co-workers, and occasionally coordinate job tasks of others in the work unit related to carpentry.
iii. Assist in preparing plans and estimates of materials and labour for Operational Services Department carpentry projects.
iv. Participate and provide feedback during the design process of new exhibitry.

B. Priority 2: Maintenance
To maintain galleries and temporary exhibit spaces at the Museum’s specified service delivery standard that ensures a positive visitor experience.
i. Assist persons in other trades’ areas when required.
ii. Assist in the installation and dismantling of temporary and travelling exhibits.
iii. Assist in the handling and installating of artifacts in museum galleries and temporary and travelling exhibits.
iv. Assist in the maintenance of equipment.
v. Maintain a safe and clean working environment.

C. Priority 3: Internal Customer Service
To provide service to internal customers to ensure they can fulfill the Museum's Mission.
i. Assist with the setup of staging, tables and chairs related to Facility Rentals.
ii. Assist with deliveries for internal customers.
iii. Assist with moving furniture and other heavy items and materials.
iv. Assist persons in other trades’ areas when required
v. May assist in research projects to identify new or improved techniques in the production process.

D. Other duties as reasonably assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Skills, Abilities and Knowledge
i. Practical knowledge of procedures, crafts, equipment and materials related to carpentry/ cabinetmaking, including the reading of blueprints, sketches, or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required
ii. General knowledge of materials, techniques and equipment in other trade areas.
iii. Ability to prepare estimates of materials and labour required for production.
iv. Ability to work cooperatively with co-workers in a team environment.
v. Ability to work independently and in an organized manner.
vi. Understanding of and compliance with safe work practices and safety policies and procedures.

2. Education, Training and Experience
i. Journeyman Carpenter/Cabinetmaker certificate, and
ii. At least three years of related experience, or
iii. An equivalent combination of education and experience.
