Position Purpose:
Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the incumbent provides sound administrative and financial management support to the business units operating under the Centre of Executive Leadership (CEL) umbrella. Support the ongoing operations of the Telfer’s executive programs by fostering a commitment to collaboration, initiative and customer service in all aspects of the CEL’s financial, administrative, HR, IT and facilities management needs.

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

- Responsible for the provision of the effective and efficient delivery of financial, administrative, HR, IT and facilities management support to the School’s Executive MBA, Master of Business in Complex Project Leadership and Executive Education programs in order to facilitate and improve the logístical aspects of the delivery of those programs.
- Responsible for working with the program directors in order to deliver the highest quality support in an efficient manner in accordance with Telfer’s and the University of Ottawa’s policies. To that end, participates actively in the CEL Management Committee and helps develop internal policies and procedures.
- Responsible for the financial analysis and activity based costing of individual program portfolios to help track and evaluate key financial performance indicators such as the break-even point or profitability of programs in order to facilitate decision making regarding adjustments to future offerings, budget allocations and overall program/workshop viability on a per cohort basis.
- Responsible for the oversight of CEL’s financial transactions including: budgeting and forecasting; variance analysis; activity based accounting; scenario planning; management of Standard Agreements and Statements of Work in cooperation with Program Director(s); payments for goods and services; invoicing and accounts receivable; and contracting for all types of goods and services in order to ensure that all financial activities are done in accordance with Telfer’s and the University of Ottawa policies and procedures. Assists the Finance Manager with audit reviews as required periodically by the University’s central administration.

What you will bring:

- Bachelor’s degree in commerce (or equivalent) preferably with a CPA designation;
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a management role in finance, procurement and administration;
- Knowledge of financial management principles, policies, procedures and practices including financial planning, budgeting, cost accounting and responsibility centre management;
- Knowledge of commodity taxes, including GST, HST and provincial sales taxes would be an asset;
- Knowledge of employment standards, human rights legislation, health and workplace safety requirements and best practices in the management of human resources;
- Knowledge of best practices in procurement and contract negotiations;
- Experience in a University setting and knowledge of a faculty’s structure and regulatory framework would be an asset;
- Ability to plan, prioritize and organize a varied and heavy workload to meet deadlines;
- Ability to prepare and analyse financial statements and resolve accounting issues in a timely manner;
- Ability to provide advice and recommendations for improvements to practices and procedures related to financial managements;
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and adapt to changing priorities, while guiding and mentoring staff;
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
