**JOB DESCRIPTION**

**JANITOR/CUSTODIAN for CHURCH & HALL**

**DAILY TASKS**
- Monitor/clean as required all washrooms in office, hall, foyer of church
- Empty garbage in all areas as required
- Dry mop hall and vestibule as required
- Sweep kitchen clean as required
- Wet mop areas as required
- Arrange church furniture as required/ hall set ups according to church schedule
- Spot vacuum the carpets in the church, Blessed Sacrament Chapel, Reconciliation room, office, and meeting rooms (in the Winter months this may be required daily/more frequently)
- Vacuum entrance mats in the winter months
- Keep tidy and in order the storage off the hall
- Keep tidy and in order all meeting rooms
- Verify lights are in working order, interior and exterior and change bulbs when necessary if conditions are safe to do so
- Report to the office any plumbing, mechanical, structural, or electrical issues; make minor repairs as required within capabilities
- Make sure all doors are locked and secured when you are the last to leave the building

**WEEKLY TASKS**
- Wash hall, vestibule (church and office), atrium, sacristy (working and dressing), altar, stairs to upper room, kitchen, and cloak rooms floors (more frequently during inclement weather)
- Verify that emergency exit signs and lights are in proper working order. Replace burnt out bulbs. Report out of order emergency lights to office for repair
- Thoroughly clean washrooms (sanitize toilets, urinals, and sinks) in church, hall, and offices
- Maintain interior plants and planters; water and dust as needed
- Remove garbage to garbage compound; monitor waste, call for removal as required
- Bring recycling bins to curb on collection day; return after pickup
- Clean the windows in the large glass doors between the vestibule and the atrium and entrance to church as required
- Thoroughly vacuum all carpets in church, offices, meeting rooms, sacristy, Blessed Sacrament Chapel, and Reconciliation room

**MONTHLY/ONGOING TASKS**
- Spot clean carpets as required
- Electrical and mechanical rooms - verify that only authorized items are in these rooms and remove what is not; clean floors as required
- Storage rooms - keep tidy and arrange stored items as required
- Maintenance of floor cleaning machinery - coordinate with supplier directly and (advise office) if major repairs or parts are required
- Maintain clean and in good working order all small hand tools/equipment
- Keep tidy hall vestibule and entrance cloak room
- Dust office and church (as and when possible)
- Cleaning of wet mops and dry mops on a regular basis
- Inspect fire extinguishers and AED unit and maintain records
- Keep inventory of washroom and janitorial supplies; order as required

**SEASONAL**
- Removal of salt marks from church carpet as required
- Strip and seal all floors in hall and kitchen area annually
- Ensure garbage compound has clear access from snow and ice

**LESS FREQUENT TASKS**
- Full strip and waxing of linoleum floors once a year
- Clean off interlock (outside) of gravel and excess salt after melt downs during the winter months - coordinate directly with contractor/contract company and advise office
- Clean windows, inside surface, below a height of 2.5 meters twice annually
- Clean all carpets annually
- Ensure entrances are clear of debris such as paper, leaves, excess salt, etc.

**CUSTODIAL DUTIES**
- Provide custodial services as well as setup and take down of tables and chairs as per church event calendar

**MAINTENANCE, MINOR REPAIRS AND OUTSIDE WORK**

**(GROUNDS KEEPER)**
- Advise office if there is a need to fix and repair pews, kneelers, etc.; make repairs if capable
- Check all lights throughout premises, inside and outside, replace as needed, call electrician when required
- On an ongoing basis maintain Church property including lawns, shrub beds, parking surface, walkways, and entrances from any garbage, etc.
- Coordinate with outside contractors/service providers as required to ensure services are delivered in safe and effective manner (fire alarm testing & fire safety inspection, snow maintenance, landscaping, electrical, mechanical, architectural, etc.)
- Perform all other related duties as assigned
- Maintain aesthetics of shrub beds at church main entrance by removing weeds, dead limbs and debris

**JANITORIAL/CUSTODIAL for ST. JOSEPH HOUSE (SJH)**
- Sweep entrance interior and exterior porch weekly
- Monitor washrooms and replenish supplies; thoroughly clean twice weekly
- Sweep/vacuum kitchen and living/dining areas twice monthly
- Thoroughly clean kitchen twice monthly
- Sweep basement and garage twice annually
- Monitor overall condition and report any deficiencies to office
- Replace burnt out lights as required
- Make minor repairs if capable

**Job Type**: Part-time

**Salary**: From $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 - 25 per week
