**SUMMARY OF DUTIES**:
**MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Contributes to the IT efficiency of organizational activities by designing, administering and evolving database servers.
- Oversees the operation, protection and usage control of databases under their responsibility.
- Suggests enhancements to refine and optimize processes, programs and work methodologies.
- Creates and maintains the database schemas holding the data models.
- Participates in the administration of database servers, including data operations, maintenance, security, optimization, batch processing, migration and data transformation.
- Supports and guides their colleagues, developers and system administrators in writing effective data-access requests.
- Proposes, creates and manages various environments (e.g., feasibility demonstration, development, testing, training and production environments).
- Works closely with other team members on designing and modelling database systems, both relational and non-relational, in an on-prem and cloud infrastructure that ensures data integrity, performance and scalability.
- Collaborates on identifying opportunities for relevant data acquisition and, as required, manages data-migration efforts to support a smooth transition between systems (on-prem, cloud environments), and participates in data pipelines (ETL, ELT).
- Works in close collaboration with colleagues (e.g., developers, data architects, data analysts, system administrators) and other stakeholders to understand database requirements and recommend and implement solutions that meet business needs.
- Maintains comprehensive documentation of database systems, configurations and procedures.
- Proposes business processes that support reliable data transformation, data structures, metadata and dependencies; implements these processes to ensure raw data is readily accessible and well organized.
- Keeps skills up to date, performs technology watch, keeps up with recent developments in the industry on a technical level, and actively participates in discussions about adopting them within the NFB; as applicable, implements approved solutions.
- On occasion, participates in continuous-improvement initiatives and other data-related projects.

**REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology or equivalent;
- Master’s degree in information systems is an asset;
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience performing tasks related to information-systems administration and implementation and providing advice and solutions;
- Experience in proposing and implementing comprehensive information-systems solutions that meet business users’ requirements, including consulting with clients to compile their needs;
- Relevant experience working with data organization and unstructured datasets, performing analysis and providing recommendations to clients;
- Significant experience designing and modelling database or information systems, big-data pipelines, data lakes, data mining, hybrid or cloud architectures, including capacity planning and security;
- Experience installing, configuring, performance tuning, optimizing and troubleshooting MySQL, Oracle and SQL Server databases;
- Proficiency with programming languages such as Java or Python;
- Strong knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems;
- Bilingualism in both official languages (French and English), both orally and in writing.
