**About Us**:
The Western English Language Centre (WELC) develops and delivers a range of English language programs that supports international-student success and contributes to the internationalization goals of the university.

**Responsibilities**:

- The English for Academic Purposes Instructor (Non-Credit) works with international students enrolled in WELC programs on Western's main campus and affiliate campuses. Both online and in-person teaching positions are available. Instructors teach students while delivering program content, creating lesson plans and preparing teaching materials, administering and marking tests and other assessments to evaluate and report on students' progress, and contribute to the Centre's program and curriculum development. In doing so, Instructors ensure that students are progressing through WELC programs to meet the requirements of conditional offers as well as supporting and preparing students to be successful in ther university studies. The Instructor liaises with academic partners to provide academic simulation opportunities as well as creates and maintains online course materials using Western's learning management system - OWL Brightspace.

**Qualifications**:
**Education**:

- Relevant professional designation: a Languages Canada approved TESL/TESOL certificate
- Completion of, or in the process of compleing, a Master's degree in Applied Linguistics, Curriculum Studies, Professional Education or a related field

**Experience**:

- Minimum 3 years' relevant Canadian and/or International ESL/EAP teaching experience
- Experience with learning management systems
- Teaching English language classes in an online capacity is an asset

Skills, Abilities & Expertise:

- Strong understanding of adult learning and ESL/EAP learning principles and methodologies
- Familiarity with learning evaluation methods
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
- Familiarity with instructional design methods to deliver instructional programs and courses
- Strong oral and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills, as well as demonstrated proficiency in academic English communication
- Communication skills to describe concepts effectively across a range of language proficiency levels
- Ability to summarize information and disseminate to others effectively in a timely manner
- Ability to perceive and understand the emotions of others, and interact with them appropriately based on those emotions
- Ability to provide guidance, support and feedback in a way that is positively received
- Organizational and multi-tasking skills to prioritize and consistently produce high-quality work
- Demonstrated ability to coach and support adult learners, and to enable individuals to learn
- Consistently demonstrates initiative in a team environment
