The successful applicant for this position will be an integral part of a professional team responsible for various aspects of maintenance and landscaping of WRDSB grounds and associated equipment and structures.

The Grounds Technician Salary range is $55,603 to $61,495 per annum (established based on the Collective Agreement).

**Responsibilities**
- Travel within the Waterloo Region in a Board assigned vehicle, completing maintenance and preventative maintenance work orders to ensure school grounds are kept safe and in good condition for the students, staff and community.
- Safely operate hand and power tools along with larger equipment such as tractors and other relevant equipment as required to safely perform the duties associated with the position.
- Resolve emergency requests as required to promote student andemployee health and safety.
- Clean and maintain tools and equipment as requiredto ensure safety and efficiency
- Receive, create, modify and close work orders as well as communicate through our computerized maintenance management system [eBase]

**Typical work order scopes**
- Vegetation trimming / removals [weeds / trees / shrubs / invasive species]
- Turfgrass irrigation systems maintenance
- Turfgrass repairs [sod / seed / soil]
- Asphalt / paved surface repairs
- Fence Repair - Various Types
- Signage installations
- Site assessment through a preventative maintenance checklist
- Site remediation through a preventative maintenance checklist
- Other duties as assigned

**Qualifications**
- Minimum grade 12 (OSSGD) is required or equivalent
- Community College Diploma related to; horticulture, landscape technology, arboriculture, turf management or equivalent discipline that is approved by Sites Forepersons
- Minimum of 3 years working experience in at least one or more of the above-mentioned program disciplines
- Valid Class ‘G’ Driver’s license with a clear and safe driving record is required. Board vehicle supplied upon signing of Vehicle Use Policy
- Experience in the safe operation and maintenance of grounds maintenance related equipment such as pole pruners, string trimmers, various power and hand tools.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on customer service
- Ability to work independently, coupled with a high degree of initiative and a rapport-based approach necessary to function in a team-based environment
- Requirement to provide a satisfactory Police vulnerable sector as required under the Education Act to protect the safety of our students and staff.

**Highly Preferred**:

- Experience with felling small trees and pruning trees will be considered an asset
- A “Chainsaw Operator’s Certificate”, would be considered an asset
- Experience with maintaining turfgrass irrigation systems will be considered an asset
