The Elgin Middlesex Detention Centre, Ministry of the Solicitor General seeks an experienced Social Worker to provide professional social work services in the assessment, treatment and community re-integration of female inmates using a women-focused approach. Effective January 1st, 2024 the salary range for this position is $1352.75 to $1717.58 per week in compliance with OPSEU Correctional Bargaining Unit collective agreement provisions. The new rates, effective retroactive to January 1, 2024, were recently confirmed and dates for implementation of the new salary rates are still to be determined.

**There may be a possibility for a compressed workweek arrangement.**

**What can I expect to do in this role?**:

- Complete bio-psycho-social, suicide, mental health, risk/needs and clinical assessments and reports for the purposes of crisis intervention, counselling, classification, rehabilitative programs, reintegration planning and parole proceedings
- Provide gender-sensitive trauma informed services/practice, and conduct gender-sensitive individual and/or group counselling and case work sessions
- Provide individual and/or group rehabilitative programming
- Plan, develop and deliver rehabilitative treatment programs and intervention strategies to address the social, emotional, criminogenic and/or psychological needs of offenders
- Explore community resources and facilitate referrals for offenders re-entering into the community
- Other duties, as assigned

**How do I qualify?**:
**Mandatory**:

- You are currently registered as a Social Worker in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers

**Specialized Knowledge and Experience**:

- You have knowledge of and practical experience in the theories, principles and practices of social work, normally acquired through a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and/or Master of Social Work (MSW)
- You have knowledge in the area of sexual abuse, addiction recovery, and woman-sensitive individual, group and family practice
- You have experience working with community support services in order to assist offenders with community referrals

**Communication and Interpersonal Skills**:

- You have experience conducting individual and group intervention and crisis counselling
- You are able to develop co-operative, professional relationships with staff, community partners, and a diverse client group
- You can engage and advocate on behalf of offenders
- You have writing skills to prepare case notes, assessments, progress and statistical reports

**Analytical, Problem-Solving and Organizational Skills**:

- You can gather and compile data from multiple sources to identify offender needs
- You are able to develop or modify rehabilitative, treatment and case management plans as well as make recommendations and referrals
- You have planning and organizational skills to manage priorities and prepare discharge plans
