**About the Opportunity**:
Reporting to the Anatomical Pathology Manager and working collaboratively with the Chief of Service, management team, medical and laboratory staff, the Technical Specialist performs procedures offered by the division using appropriate methodologies and quality assurance techniques. The Technical Specialist has the capability to conduct all aspects of procedural and instrument troubleshooting, method evaluation, establishment and maintenance of quality assurance and safety programs, as well as interpret the technical acceptability of method results. The Technical Specialist will be responsible for inventory management, procedure development, training of new staff, students, and residents and chairing of meetings. The Technical Specialist will have responsibilities in the Cytopathology section as well as other sections in the Division of Anatomical Pathology. The Technical Specialist will collaborate with the management team to support and maintain daily operations. The Technical Specialist will be a resource for other laboratories in Central Zone. The Technical Specialist will collaborate with faculty, colleagues, vendors and clients in Central Zone and throughout Nova Scotia Health. Working conditions include exposure to chemicals on a daily basis.

**About You**:
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

- Must be a graduate from an approved program in Cytology plus three (3) years Cytology experience
- Certification from CSMLS and license with NSCMLT is required
- Experience in Gynaecological and Non Gynaecological screening is required
- Experience with document control systems, and other related computer skills an asset
- In-depth knowledge and experience with Cerner LIS is essential
- Experience in policy and procedure development
- Must be able to recognize abnormal situations and respond appropriately
- Must have demonstrated in-depth knowledge of cytological laboratory techniques
- Previous experience with Quality Assurance initiatives preferred
- Must have demonstrated strong customer service skills; leadership skills; excellent organization and technical skills; as well as good decision-making skills
- Strong project and time management skills
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally
- Focus on Quality Improvement, Accountability, Shared Learning and Teamwork
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

**Hours**:
Permanent, Full-Time position; 75 hours bi-weekly

**Compensation and Incentives**:
$34.23 - $41.55 hourly
