The Elliott Community is a charitable, not-for-profit senior’s residence offering a continuum of residential and nursing services of the highest standards. This historical and unique facility in Guelph, proudly offers a variety of lifestyle choices; independent living in life lease suites, supported living in retirement suites, enhanced support in retirement plus and full nursing care in our long-term care residence.

THE OPPORTUNITY
The Elliott Community wants to take this opportunity to further enhance the lives of our residents by focusing on our recreation and wellness programs. The Recreationist position develops, facilitates and evaluates programs to ensure we are meeting the physical, cognitive, emotional, social and spiritual needs of our residents in retirement living.
- Committed to putting people before tasks, providing care that is person-centred and supports choice and independence for each resident.
- Plans and implements life enrichment recreation programs to improve the functioning of residents with a wide variety of physical, cognitive, social, emotional, developmental, spiritual or age-related needs.
- Implements 1:1 and group recreation activities.
- Documents resident progress in programs through progress notes.
- Provides a positive, supportive and welcoming atmosphere during recreation programming.
- Communicates and documents behavioral observations of residents to other staff and team members.
- Encourages resident involvement in recreation opportunities and provides necessary supports to facilitate resident involvement and participation.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Current enrollment or completion of Recreation & Leisure Studies, Recreation Therapy, Older Adult Development. Gerontology or Therapeutic Recreation from an accredited community college or university
- Valid driver’s license, Class F preferred.
- Smart serve certification and Safe food Handling certification.
- Fundamental knowledge of recreation principles and practices and its effects on resident functioning.
- Basic knowledge of terminology, diagnoses, issues and conditions related to residents levels of functioning and abilities.
- Ability to plan and lead a variety of recreation programs under the emotional, intellectual, physical, social and spiritual domain.
WHAT WE OFFER
- We have a few opportunities available:
- Continuous Part-time line: 60 hours bi-weekly including alternate weekends. Shifts are typically 8am-4pm and 12pm-8pm in both our LTC and Retirement Home area.
- 12month Contract Full-Time line: 75 hours bi-weekly including alternate weekends. Shifts are typically 8am-4pm and 12pm-8pm in our Retirement home area.
