**RESPONSIBLE TO: Coordinator of Student Services**

**ROLE**:

- Provides support to students with significant learning and behavioural challenges or who demonstrate complex needs including, but not exclusive to, students with Autism Spectrum Disorder within the Provincial Regional Centres of Education and CSAP.
- Provides support to school teams and staff in the design and implementation of behaviour plans and specific teaching strategies/plans to support student learning.
- Works within the Inclusion Policy and MTSS framework by participating in individualized program planning with school staff and families to maximize learning experiences for students within the school setting.

**Qualifications**:

- BCBA Certification in good standing with the Behaviour Analyst Certification Board OR completion of a Master’s level program in Applied Behavioural Analysis, and currently undergoing supervision to obtain BCBA certification.
- A Master’s Degree or equivalent in Special Education, Inclusive Education.
- Eligible for Nova Scotia Teacher Certification.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in school settings with children and youth diagnosed complex behaviour and learning challenges and /or ASD, developing and implementing programming based on applied behavioural analysis.
- Familiarity with traditional and contemporary ABA approaches including Verbal Behaviour, PRT and other naturalistic behavioural interventions.
- Current knowledge of ASD, the impact on learning, communication and social engagement throughout the lifespan and direct experience working with children and youth with ASD in public school settings.
- Has taken or willing to take the ASD online course ASD and Behavioural Interventions: An Introduction for School Personnel.

**Responsibilities**:

- Commitment to maintaining BCBA certification.
- Design, develop and implement behaviour management and/or behavioral interventions and programs for skills development.
- Commitment to using evidence based practices for school aged children and youth.
- Conduct Functional Behaviour Assessments to develop behaviour intervention plans.
- Maintain graphing and progress reports for students on caseload.
- Participate in the student program planning process providing support for the implementation of behavior plans, IPPS and individualized learning plans.
- Work respectfully and collaboratively with administration, classroom teachers, learning support teachers, and school based specialist staff (i.e., SLPs, ASD Specialists/Autism Support Teachers, School Psychologists).
- Provide on-going coaching and professional learning opportunities to school staff on behavior interventions and supports, learning and teaching strategies.
- Consult with regular classroom teachers, learning support teachers and other school staff regarding students with complex learning and behavioural challenges.
- Assist with maintaining student data and prepare pertinent reports to document student progress as requested by the school team and Student Services Supervisor, Consultant or Facilitator.
- Assist with developing and providing staff training and preparation for working effectively with students with a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder as well as those students with other behavioral disorders.
- Willingness to pursue continuing education and professional development in MTSS, Inclusive Education and ASD.
- Carry out other responsibilities as designated by the Student Services Supervisor in the RCE /CSAP.

**Competencies Required**:

- Proven ability to work as a contributing member of school program planning teams.
- Excellent communication (written, oral and electronic), problem solving and interpersonal skills.
- Possess knowledge of Provincial and Regional Education Centre or CSAP policies, guidelines and procedures and the rights and responsibilities of parents, students, teachers and schools as they relate to all students.
