We are seeking creative, dynamic, committed educational leaders

to join the following initiative:
Itinerant Educational Assistant

100%, Term (10 month work year)

$23.45 to $24.39 per hour

The OCDSB is committed to supporting the success and belonging of

experienced by this community. Under the Section 14, Special Programs provisions of the Ontario Human Rights Code, the OCDSB seeks to

hire an elementary itinerant educational assistant who is Indigenous, who will

experiences will uniquely qualify the person to support Indigenous students to

achieve equal opportunity in education and success within the school

environment.

Under the direction of

the Mental Health Lead, the Itinerant Educational Assistant is a member of the

central IEA team and will work alongside other members of the Indigenous

Education and Learning Support Services teams to provide support for Indigenous

students and families. The position involves dealing with confidential

information and requires ongoing flexibility and variability.

will possess a community college diploma in Developmental Services Worker, Child

and Youth Care/Worker, or equivalent, and a minimum of 1-2 years of work with

Indigenous students and families. Valid First Aid certification/CPR Level C is

required. Training in Collaborative Problem Solving, Attachment theory and

emotion focused coaching is an asset. An understanding of Jordan’s Principle

and Child First Initiative would be valuable. Please ensure that you include

copies of your diploma(s) and/or certificates that are applicable to the

qualifications of an Educational Assistant.

This Itinerant Educational Assistant assignment term position is

considered in accordance with the Collective Agreement. Regular Educational

Assistants who are successful will retain their current rate of pay and right

of return to their former location.

Required Skills and Abilities:
Elementary Itinerant Educational Assistant

Provides guidance to

school staff on creating identity affirming and mentally healthy classroom and

school environments for Indigenous students

Provides guidance for

school staff in creating supportive intervention plans for Indigenous students

exhibiting stress behavior

Provide coaching and

support to staff to follow the tiered intervention model ensuring strategies

and supports are culturally relevant and responsive to student needs

Deepening staff

understanding of the impact of ongoing systemic discrimination on the

experience of students and families within education

Provides coaching and

support in understanding the resources available to Indigenous students

including Jordan’s Principle, Child First Initiative, and Non-Insured Health

If a term assignment is less than the school year: $23.45 per hour + 4% vacation pay and eligibility for benefits
