Stittsville, Canada Bekkers Pet Care Inc. Full time

**At the moment we are looking to hire 1 - 2 staff who are available at least every second weekend (Sat+Sun) as well as 1 - 2 weekday afternoons. We are potentially looking for somebody full time as well in which we will have 30 - 40 hours per week available.**

As a Kennel attendant it is your responsibility to be reliable and show up on time. Our pets here rely on us being here so punctuality is an asset above all else.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- **Running group play sessions for boarding and/or daycare dogs**:

- Average between 15-25 dogs per yard, sorted by size and temperament
- Keep dogs moving, communicate with them, monitor behaviour/changes in behaviour
- Staff MUST pay attention during playtime. It is perfectly common for dogs to annoy each other or simply have disagreeable personalities which can easily escalate to a physical altercation. If you pay attention to body language and keep their attention on you, altercations are completely avoidable
- Must be comfortable breaking up altercations between dogs. Although uncommon and typically very minor, these situations do occur, and staff must be able to handle it
- Pick up poop in yards (shovelled into a bucket), dump buckets when full
- Sweep rocks, ensure water buckets are always filled
- **Walking dogs**:

- 1-2 dogs at a time, all sizes and breeds
- Pay attention and control dogs during walks, NOT on your phone - losing contact with the leash for even a moment is dangerous and unacceptable. Most staff tie the leash around their waist, so they don’t have to worry about this
- You will typically be walking dogs for 1-2 hours once or twice a day
- **Cat care**:

- Scooping and replacing litter
- Cleaning messes outside the litter box
- Feeding
- Brushing cats/providing playtime
- **Bathe dogs **- Full paid baths and quick clean up baths
- **Indoor cleaning**:

- Washing out dog kennels/doing a deep-clean scrub of kennels
- Laundry, dishes, vacuum, mop, windows

**EXPECTATIONS/QUALIFICATIONS**

This is a straightforward and enjoyable job that gives you the opportunity to spend time with cute and loving dogs and cats. _However_, it is not just playing with animals. We are responsible for the safety and wellbeing of our customers’ beloved pets and our staff are expected to take the job seriously and work hard. The majority of caring for animals is physical labour and cleaning, not cuddling (you will still get plenty of those though)
- **Punctuality** and **Reliability** - The beginning of shift is the most important time as this is when we run playtime, do the cleaning, and deal with customer drop-offs/pick-ups. It is _imperative_ that staff are not late as these are the most important/busy times of day
- **Dog Experience** - Professional or personal experience with dogs, a basic understanding of behaviour & body language, comfortable with dogs of all sizes, including rambunctious/jumpy dogs
- **Detail-Oriented** - Able to follow specific instructions, notice changes in dogs’ appearance/behaviour that could signal an injury or illness, clean thoroughly
- **Communication** - Able to communicate with the team to accomplish the tasks needed to be done and ensure that everyone is aware of any important information. As safety for the animals is our number one priority, miscommunication can be a big problem
- **Self-Starter** - There are always things that need to be done (mostly cleaning) so you need to be someone who can notice these things and get to work on them without needing to be directed
- **Not afraid to get dirty** - You will get dirty, probably get a few holes in your clothes, slobber on your face, and maybe even get poop or pee on you This is a fun job, but definitely not a glamorous one

**SHIFTS**

This is a part-time position with the possibility of full
- or nearly full-time hours if you have the availability, especially as we get into the summer months.

**Morning**:

- 7am - 10:30/11:00am

**Afternoon **- 3:00/3:30 - 6pm

**Weekends **- Split-shifts. Both morning and afternoon shifts on these days with a long break in between. MUST be available every other weekend.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time
Part-time hours: 10-35 per week

**Salary**: $16.00-$18.00 per hour

**Benefits**:

- Casual dress
- Flexible schedule
- On-site parking

Schedule:

- Weekends as needed

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Stittsville, ON K2S 1B8: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Work Location: In person
