The Opportunity
The City of St. Albert has an exciting opportunity for a seasoned and highly capable Environmental Management Supervisor to join our team. Reporting to the Manager of Environment, the Supervisor is responsible to:
- manage the City's Environmental Management System, including audits and accreditations (i.e. ISO 14001, compliance audits).
- collaborate with department managers and supervisors to implement recommendations and corrective actions based on audit findings.
- provide direction and support to City on matters of corporate environmental risk.
- manage the City's environmental liabilities (currently listed contaminated sites) through consultant lead investigations of contaminated sites or other risk related issues.
- ensure budgets for long term environmental monitoring programs are fair and that consultants are utilizing funds appropriately.
- communicate with provincial (Alberta Environment and Parks) annually for risk management and reporting requirements.
- retain and manage consultants for long term monitoring programs.
- respond to spills or releases occurring within City boundaries that are reported.
- provide expert advice to other City staff (i.e., planners, engineers, department managers, etc.) on matters and/or environmental legislation related to contaminated or potentially contaminated sites during planning and or construction activities that may arise.
**Qualifications**:
- Bachelor of Science in Environmental Sciences, Engineering, or a related degree.
- Minimum of five (5) years of environmental experience with a minimum of three (3) years of experience in environmental risk management such as environmental management systems, contaminated sites and environmental monitoring.
- Experience in environmental spill response and emergency management is an asset.
- Thorough understanding of provincial and federal environmental legislation, regulations, and codes of practice is required.
- Experience leading projects and multi-discipline project teams and overseeing public engagement activities.
- The individual must be personable and professional with strong organization, and time management skills.
- Class 5 Drivers Licence required.
Hours of Work
We offer a compressed schedule of 72 hours bi-weekly (Monday - Friday, 8:00 - 5:00 with a regular day off [RDO]).
Compensation
$88,994 - $109,530 per annum. In addition, the City of St. Albert offers a comprehensive flexible benefit package.
