**JOB SUMMARY**:
Responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operations of the kitchen and for assisting in the production and service of all goods produced for events within Government House. Must have attention to detail and be focused on the finished product, ensuring taste and appearance are to the high standards expected.

**PURPOSE**:
Reporting to the Executive Sous Chef, the primary function of this position is to provide our guests with sweet and savory culinary delights for Government House events and for Rudi’s Tea Room, when opened for the season.

**SCHEDULE**:

- Part-Time, casual schedule

**Hours dependent on scheduled events at Government House and operating hours for Rudi’s Tea Room**.
- Estimated hours will fall Monday to Saturday; mornings, midday shifts and some evenings.
- Starting Rate of $22.00/hour. Negotiated increases will be dependent on breadth of experience.

**KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS**:

- Responsible for all food products from the kitchen to be produced at the highest quality to ensure guest satisfaction.
- Works in conjunction with the Executive Chef and Executive Sous Chef to establish new goals and explore culinary ideas.
- Ensures all established food safety protocols are followed, maintains the kitchen in a neat, clean, and organized manner.
- Portions and garnishes all savory goods, plated dinners, buffet dinners, receptions, and luncheons.
- Monitors the quality of all items produced in the kitchen, and all items used in the production of food.
- Consults with the Executive Chef and the Executive Sous Chef to set and maintain quality levels.
- Ability to follow basic written and verbal instructions.
- Knowledge of weights, measurements, volume, and cooking procedures.
- Must be able to exert physical effort in transporting up to 50 pounds, endure various physical movements throughout the work areas, reach up and down, remain stationary at times throughout work periods, and satisfactorily communicate with co-workers to their understanding.
- Proven cooking experience, including experience as a restaurant cook or prep cook.
- Food Safety Level 1 Certification required.
- Certificate from a recognized cooking school or currently attending an accredited culinary program.

**REQUIREMENTS**

Applicants must be capable of performing the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations.

Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service, which may include criminal records check, and/or Criminal Records Review Act check, and/or enhanced security checks as required by Government House.
