**Salary: $23.68 - $28.30/HR - 35 Hours per Week**

**Location: Naughton, ON**

**POSITION SCOPE**:
The Junior Environmental Technician will support the Lands Staff with various project tasks related to the Lands Department programing. There will be a strong focus on fieldwork. This position will include conducting biological surveys for Species-at-Risk, assisting with community outreach events, and working as part of a project team. The successful applicant(s) will be trained by Land Staff and other project staff in a variety of skills. The position will be based at the Atikameksheng Anishnawbek Lands & Economic Development Department.

**REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Mandatory Requirements_
- Be a graduate of a high school / or equivalent or / of a post secondary program.
- Have an interest in Natural Resource Management, Environmental Sciences/Technology, OR
- Possess any related lands training experience such as Forestry, Geography, Agriculture, Ecology, or Environmental Science
- First Nations and Inuit youth, between the ages of 15-30 and who are ordinarily resident on reserve or in recognized communities.
- Additional Requirements_
- Knowledge or interest in biology, ecology and species
- at
- risk
- Excellent verbal communications skills
- Good organizational and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, as part of a team
- Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Word.
- Willingness to work outdoors when conducting field work in potentially adverse conditions (rain, bugs, heat)
- Knowledge of GIS mapping software
- Past experience with field work and surveying
- Past experience working with fish, wildlife, and plants.
- Valid driver’s license
- Operation of a boat
- Operation of an ATV
- Pleasure Craft Operators card
- Chainsaw certificate

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Promote the Atikameksheng Anishnawbek’s Vision and Mission Statements
- Conduct biological surveys for species at risk (turtles, snakes, bats and birds and others)
- Conduct Creel Surveys (Fisheries)
- Conduct ground truthing
- Collection of water samples
- Use GPS units to collect the location information
- Assist with presentations to the public and outreach events
- Input data recorded in the field into spreadsheets and databases
- Report writing
- Communicate with partner organizations
