**Job Description - Buyer**

**_Summary _**

The Buyer is responsible for the procurement of materials, supplies, equipment, and services to be used by Megatech Engineering. The Buyer coordinates his or her efforts with manufacturing, engineering, sales, and shipping to maintain the appropriate flow of material at the right time. This individual will utilize expert knowledge to purchase goods and services at the most favourable price for the company, while simultaneously building and maintaining strategic relationships with key suppliers. This position will report to the Operations Manager.

**_Primary Responsibilities _**
- Creates supplier delivery schedules, tracks, and reports on the status of released PO’s and ensure suppliers are not overloaded.
- Acts as a liaison between internal and external departments.
- Receives material and services requirements from Engineering, Sales, and Operations, prioritizes delivery and resolves scheduling conflicts.
- Expedites purchased product and services deliveries when needed.
- Gets competitive quotes, negotiates, and uses the proper QA clauses.
- Ensures a smooth flow of material to feed the shops thereby reducing/eliminating costly wait times.
- Provides continual improvement of the material planning and reporting processes.
- Research and survey buying markets to source the most optimal suppliers, in accordance with corporate objectives.
- Prepare and administer bids, requests for quotes, requests for proposal, requests for information, and other vendor documentation.
- Receive and handle invoices from vendors; verify that the information on invoices is for agreed
- upon prices, products, shipment date, and shipping method.
- Remain abreast of pricing trends, changes, restrictions, or any other variables that could affect purchasing strategies.
- Advise departments of lead time required to obtain products or services.
- Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies using diplomacy and tact with vendors and service providers.
- Make recommendations and suggest options to the Manager regarding expected or unexpected material shortages.
- Negotiate return of items to vendors and coordinate subsequent credits, refunds, or replacements.
- Make alternate arrangements in the event of shortages or delayed deliveries to minimize impact on the organization.
- Monitor and use database tools to create efficiency.
- Create and maintain SOP’s for purchasing.
- Adhere to and enforce compliance with purchasing policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
- All other duties as instructed by your supervisor.

**_Qualifications and Accreditations _**
- A diploma in Operations Management, CPIM, SCMP or experience in a technical field with 5+ years of relevant work experience is preferred. Will consider 5+ years’ experience in material planning/purchasing within the metal fabrication industry
- Excellent English communication skills - verbal and written.

**_Experience _**
- Team attitude; eager to cooperate with others, exceptional interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong planning, organizational skills and attention to detail are required.
- Inventory management skills and process flow knowledge are an asset.
- Competent with Microsoft Office products - Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, MS Project
- Strong database knowledge
- Knowledge of MRP/ERP systems

**Salary**: $62,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
