AV Group NB Inc. is currently recruiting for a Lab Supervisor in Nackawic, NB.

Role Overview:
Reporting to the Technical Manager, the Lab Supervisor will lead a dynamic team consisting of Day workers and Shift positions. As a member of the production team, the Lab Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the teams have the required main laboratory test results needed to efficiently operate the mill. This is done through the supervision of the Main Technical Lab (Analytical/Viscosity Testers and Technologists) and management of the Laboratory QA/QC program.

**Responsibilities**:

- Supervise and direct AVN main lab personnel (7 Day Workers and 2 Shift Positions
- 20 individuals) to meet all departmental and unit objectives;
- Ensure routine testing is carried out accurately and on time, prioritize daily needs of the mill and assign resources and testing services as required;
- Develop, implement and maintain test methods that meet requirements for repeatability and accuracy
- Train employees in methods and procedures and ensure compliance to policy and regulations;
- Manage performance of employees and schedule and approve employee time;
- Administer Labour Agreement supporting company objectives in engagement, cost, and flexibility including handling first-step grievances;
- Promote and ensure safety in the workplace by coaching, mentoring and ensuring compliance with existing policies;
- Support implementation and maintenance of quality and environmental systems and ensure environmental monitoring (emissions testing) meet regulatory requirements;
- Support delivery of gas testing and asbestos testing to meet respiratory protect program requirements;
- Maintain the appropriate consumable Laboratory reagent and apparatus inventories to meet needs of all testing requirement through out the mill;
- Daily validation QA/QC of final product data and releasing of pulp to Logistics to allow for shipping to customer;
- Processing of re-pulp bales in SAP to ensure accurate product inventory;
- Cost Management - assist with preparation and maintenance department budget and propose projects to increase efficiency and lower cost;
- Responsible for the care and upkeep of Laboratory equipment and facility - repair, maintenance and calibration and co-ordination of 3rd party contractors for executing work;
- Support customer quality complaint investigations.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering Technology Diploma, Chemistry Degree or other appropriate Bachelor of Science degree;
- Previous experience in a Kraft pulp mill would be considered an asset;
- Able to lead change and continuous improvement;
- Ability to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities;
- Strong leadership and communication skills;
- Performance management experience;
- Experience working in a unionized environment is considered an asset;
- Fluency in written and verbal English language is required.
