**The Opportunity**
Olympic Industries is seeking a highly motivated individual with a background working with plywood products to join our dynamic team. As a Plywood Trader, you will play a pivotal role in expanding our market presence and building a new book of business. Your responsibilities will involve analyzing market trends, negotiating contracts, and ensuring optimal procurement and sales strategies to maximize profitability and minimize risk.
**Trader Training Program**
- Completing Olympics’ internal training program to learn about the industry and how to develop a successful personal business plan before transitioning to the trading floor.
- Working with the logistics team to manage lumber distribution by growing Olympics’ transportation network and negotiating overland freight costs with various stakeholders.
- Networking with Olympic Industries Traders to learn about the company's business model.
- Opportunity to learn and understand all parts of the business including accounting, international compliance, and various operations.
- Communicating and collaborating with Olympic Industries’ Traders to resolve challenges in the distribution/logistics of forest products.
- Monitoring and analyzing market trends within the forest product trading industry.
**Specific Responsibilities of a Trader**
- Identify and target potential customers in need of plywood products in Canada and the USA through market research, lead generation, and networking.
- Develop supply partnerships with plywood producers and develop a deep understanding of products offered, including providing expert guidance and recommendations to Olympic Traders and external customers.
- Build and maintain professional relationships with external stakeholders, including cold-calling, and qualifying prospects.
- Conduct sales negotiations to establish pricing, terms, and contracts that align with company objectives and meet customer needs.
- Proactively engage with potential and existing clients to understand their requirements, provide product information, and address inquiries.
- Collaborate with internal teams such as logistics and operations to facilitate smooth transactions.
- Continuously generating new trading ideas by identifying arbitrage opportunities.
- Keeping a constant up-to-date knowledge of the markets.
- Managing trading positions while balancing risk and financing.
**Who We’re Looking For**
- In-depth knowledge of plywood products, including but not limited to, experience buying/selling plywood for buying groups, etc., hands-on field experience in framing, etc., supporting procurement in a manufacturing, retail, residential, multifamily setting, etc.
- Degree or Diploma in business, finance, sales/business development, or a related field considered an asset.
- Previous experience in a meritocratic role where there is a requirement to influence other’s decisions and actions considered an asset. For example: sales, account management, and business development.
- Experience in competitive sports or other highly competitive roles is considered an asset.
