**Job Description: Produce Clerk**

As a Produce Clerk, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the produce department in our grocery store. Your primary responsibility will be to handle, maintain, and present fresh fruits and vegetables to customers, creating an inviting and visually appealing produce section. You will also assist customers with their inquiries, provide helpful product information, and support other team members in maintaining cleanliness and organization within the department. This position requires the ability to work in a cooler environment, as you'll be handling perishable items that need to be stored at appropriate temperatures.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Receive, inspect, and stock fresh fruits and vegetables, ensuring they are displayed attractively and in accordance with company standards.
- Rotate and replenish produce items to maintain freshness and minimize waste.
- Arrange displays to maximize product visibility and create an appealing shopping experience.
- Remove damaged or expired items promptly to uphold quality standards.
- Greeting customers warmly, providing friendly and helpful assistance
- Answer customer questions about produce items, including origin, ripeness, storage tips, and nutritional information.
- Assist in locating specific produce items and provide alternative options if needed.
- Adhere to food safety and sanitation guidelines, maintaining cleanliness in the department, and practicing proper handling techniques to prevent cross-contamination.
- Work comfortably in a cooler environment to ensure the freshness and quality of produce.
- Track and record inventory levels of produce items
- Ensure accurate pricing of produce items and update pricing labels as necessary.
- Assist in other areas and departments as needed

**Requirements**:

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a retail environment or produce department is beneficial
- Knowledge of various fruits and vegetables, their seasonality, and proper storage methods is an advantage.
- Ability to work with sharp tools, ladders, pallet jacks and food preparation
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to provide excellent customer service.
- Attention to detail and the ability to maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Physical ability to lift and carry produce items, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Ability to work comfortably in a cooler environment to handle and store perishable produce items appropriately.
