**Job Summary**

The fitness counsellor will be responsible for providing a safe and pleasant environment for all members using the fitness facilities. The fitness counsellor will provide direct leadership to the administration of all services offered at the fitness facilities including but not limited to: part time staff leadership, exceptional customer service, quality fitness programs, personal training program and membership administration.

**Hours of Work**:Early morning, evening and weekend shifts required

**KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Monitors fitness programs and activities within the community centres and fosters and provides a client centric approach to service delivery.
- Responsible for providing exceptional customer service. Responding to front desk inquiries regarding: Fitness Programs, membership and registration.
- Provide support to staff scheduling, part time staff training, payroll duties, administrative processes, reports and general office duties.
- Responsible for the effective delivery and monitoring of the City of Markham’s new member engagement system.
- Willingness to lead by example and conduct New Member Orientation appointments.
- May teach a variety of group fitness classes
- Monitors and assigns the maintenance of all fitness equipment, supplies and all fitness facility systems by Centre part time staff to ensure the facility operates in a safe, efficient and client centric manner. Ensuring that the site, equipment and supplies are appropriate to the activity and environment to reduce and minimize the risk to other staff and members.
- Monitors membership sales techniques to ensure standards are adhered to and overall membership retention and client relations service levels are met.
- Support other team members by working in a collaborative and co-operative manner. This includes mentoring part time Fitness Specialists and Information Services Attendants ensuring all customer interaction processes are adhered to.
- Ensures administration of proof of purchase and compilation of attendance processes for Group Fitness and Fitness Centre floor activities
- Assists the Community Program Coordinators and Supervisors on a number of City Wide fitness related initiatives such as: the scheduling of fitness equipment maintenance and replacement; the development of marketing campaigns and promotion of the fitness centre and programs to ensure a growing and vibrant membership.
- Resolve any customer service issues, complaints or inquiries and advise Community Facility Coordinator and Community Program Coordinator, where appropriate.
- Oversee membership administration
- enrolment, payment, accounts receivable recovery and related administrative duties.
- Oversee a number of fitness programs within centres such as small group training, squash house league program
- and others in collaboration with the Community Program Coordinators.
- Mentors staff in motivation, encouragement and instruction of members on use of all fitness equipment, monitoring of clients resting and exercise heart rate and blood pressure as requested.
- Support the administration and promotion of the City of Markham’s Personal Training program.
- Monitors and supports the evaluation of clients personal outcomes to provide the client with a safe and effective exercise plan based on their needs, abilities and goals. Includes the scheduling of clients for fitness related orientations and appointments within the City of Markham New Member Engagement system. Also includes following up with individuals that miss their appointments or need further assistance
- Other duties as assigned - Which may include but are not limited to light duty facility and equipment cleaning, organizing, filing and small - med individual or group projects.

**REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES**
- College/University degree in Physical Education or Kinesiology; or 2 year college diploma in fitness and health promotion/fitness and lifestyle management.
- Possess a valid Personal Training Certification (CanFit Pro PTS, ACSM,CPTN, NSCA or equivalent) required.
