Burlington Street Partners is a privately-held investment firm located in Toronto, Ontario. We acquire and invest in small-to-medium sized businesses in North America with established operating histories. We currently own 3 companies in our portfolio and are growing rapidly.

We’re seeking a Corporate Controller to join our team. This individual will be wearing many hats in a core part of our finance team, working directly alongside our CFO (for purpose of this job description, we are calling it a Corporate Controller - title TBD).

No two days are ever the same in this role. Working across the portfolio and on new acquisition opportunities, the Corporate Controller will be expected to have a wide range of responsibilities and opportunities to make an impact. Your responsibilities will broadly fall into two buckets:
1) **Oversee all aspects of financial management for our portfolio companies**. Our companies have dedicated accounting teams at the portfolio level. The Controller will support and manage the companies’ accounting function, including establishing and maintaining corporate accounting, systems and processes, best practices, and procedures, preparing financial statements, board packages and reporting to the senior leadership team.

2) **Accounting due diligence for new acquisition opportunities**. You will work alongside the CFO on accounting diligence for new acquisition opportunities. This will involve reviewing target’s GL and accounting records to perform in-house quality of earnings and due diligence reports.

The position is located in the GTA. Hybrid work environment available with some travel to the portfolio companies’ offices as required (Mississauga, Markham, Cambridge) and occasional out of town travel required when pursuing Canada/USA targets.

**About the role**:
As Corporate Controller, your responsibilities include:

- Implement and monitor month-end processes at portfolio companies.
- Oversee accounting staff at portfolio companies.
- Ensuring effective cash management and planning, overseeing payroll, AP, AR, etc.
- Preparation of accurate and reliable financial statements (monthly, quarterly, and annual year-end).
- Involvement with annual budgeting and forecasting processes alongside the CFO and Portfolio GMs.
- Assist with the development and execution of newly acquired companies’ transition plans.
- Support portfolio company GMs and other staff with special projects.
- Accounting due diligence for new acquisition opportunities.
- Coordinate the year-end review and preparation of financial statements and work with external accountants as required.
- Ensure documentation on accounting and operational procedures and policies is maintained and updated regularly.
- Ad hoc financial reporting, as required.

**Desired skills and experience**:
We’re looking for a multitalented professional that is comfortable working in ambiguity, confidently prioritizing multiple tasks and able to problem solve on a variety of challenges.
- 5+ years accounting experience, though years are not as relevant as experience demonstrating success in prior roles.
- CPA preferred.
- You can open a GL and know where to look.
- You are comfortable manipulating data and preparing reports in Excel.
- Advanced knowledge of accounting software.
- Excellent communication skills.
- High attention to detail in all areas of work.
- Proactive attitude and deep sense of ownership and initiative.
