Mental Health & Wellness Officer (Terrace campus)
Job description and duties
- CMTN acknowledges the six _unceded_ _traditional territories its campuses reside on: Haida, Tsimshian (Ts'msyen), Nisga'a, Haisla, Gitxsan, Wet'suwet'en nations._
Duties: The Mental Health and Wellness Officer (MHWO) fosters conditions that enhance students' health and well-being by organizing inclusive, proactive, and relevant events and programs ensuring responsive and informed planning. This involves collaboration with internal departments and external agencies and researching current post-secondary approaches to supporting mental health and well-being.
An illustrative sample of tasks include but are not limited to the following:
- Works with Manager of Community and Student Wellbeing to ensure alignment of events and initiatives with Student Mental Health and Wellness (MHW) Strategy
- Recommend best practices for supporting student wellbeing
- Collaborate with the Student Engagement Coordinator and external services to design and deliver wellbeing events for students
- Collaborate with First Nations Access Coordinators to ensure alignment with Indigenization and Reconciliation in their planning of initiatives to support the student population at CMTN
- Collaborate with COLT to ensure alignment with Teaching and Learning training initiatives
- Advocates for Mental Health awareness and de-stigmatization across CMTN community
- Supports triage processes for directing students in need of counselling or other support
- Collects and maintains data related to events, activities and MHW strategy outcomes
- All other tasks of similar scope and complexity as required
**Qualifications**:
A Bachelor degree in Social Work or Psychology along with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a student-focused environment as well as experience with design and implementation of knowledge translation for diverse groups, through, but not limited to, workshops, awareness campaigns, and presentations.
Required skills, abilities, and knowledge includes:
- Experience in design and implementation of knowledge translation for diverse groups, through, but not limited to, workshops, awareness campaigns, and presentations
- Current knowledge of the intersectionality of holistic wellbeing with other social, economic, diversity and equity factors
- Able to exercises discretion and sound judgement around sensitive matters
- Exhibits active listening skills, empathy, and awareness of confidentiality
- Strong written, verbal, and technology skills
- Ability to function effectively across cultures, particularly with the Indigenous communities
- Prior experience in a post-secondary institution is an asset
