The Canadian operation of GEI is expanding in the Ontario market and GEI is looking for a Materials Testing & Inspection Technician to join our existing team, working on projects across Ontario. This position is based in GEI s Geotechnical and Earth Sciences office in Barrie, Ontario, and includes regular full-time work (40 hours per week).

**Essential Responsibilities & Duties**
- Compaction testing using a nuclear densometer for engineered fill, bedding, backfill, granular base and sub-base, asphalt, etc.
- Sampling of soil, granulars and asphalt for laboratory testing.
- On-site concrete testing or sampling.
- Subgrade, foundation, and reinforcing steel inspections.
- Geotechnical laboratory testing (i.e. water contents, hydrometers, etc.).
- Materials laboratory testing (i.e. proctors, granular sieves, concrete, etc.).
- General CAD design.
- Maintain testing equipment in a good condition and maintain calibration.
- Prepare field inspection reports.
- Communicate field results with contractors and supervisor.

**Minimum Qualifications**
- College diploma in Civil Engineering required.
- Minimum 1 to 2 years of experience preferred.
- Interested in teamwork, autonomous, and organized.
- Good physical condition.
- Valid driver s license and have access to a vehicle which may be used to travel to and from site.
- Ability to work out of town when needed.
- Available to work on different shifts and schedules.
- Available to work on weekends on short notice.
- Attention to detail and problem solving.
- Ability to adapt to changing work conditions and schedules on short notice.
