**Duties and Responsibilities**:
The Tower Crane Service Technician reports to the Crane Manager and plays a vital role in the maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of tower cranes. This position also involves providing expert technical assistance during erection, dismantling, and climbing operations. As a Tower Crane Service Technician, you will visit customer sites, perform troubleshooting and repairs, conduct crane inspections, and ensure proper functioning of equipment at the yard before crane erection. Additionally, you will be responsible for reading and understanding electrical schematics, using computer programming for PLCs (Programmable Logic Controller) and ancillary equipment, resolving emergency breakdown situations, completing detailed reports, and responding to service calls. This is a full-time position that requires a solid mechanical background and aptitude and the flexibility and ability to perform duties outside of your primary area of expertise.
**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Visit customer sites to troubleshoot and perform necessary repairs on tower cranes
- Conduct thorough crane inspections at customer sites to ensure safety and optimal performance
- Service and repair equipment at the yard prior to crane erection
- Provide expert technical assistance during the erection, dismantling, and climbing of tower cranes
- Read and follow electrical schematics during troubleshooting procedures
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of the operations manual for all equipment
- Utilize computer programming skills to program PLCs and ancillary equipment
- Resolve emergency breakdown situations and respond promptly to service calls
- Complete detailed reports in a timely manner, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail
- Be prepared to respond to unplanned/emergency work outside of the normal work schedule
- Maintain flexibility and adaptability to perform duties outside of your primary area of expertise, as required, to meet the needs and goals of the company
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment and comply with all WorkSafe (WCB) procedures/safety practices including on site and company work practices and guidelines
**Qualifications and Competencies**:
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in an industrial maintenance environment or equivalent
- Prior experience with 480V/3-phase motor controls and a practical working knowledge of electrical schematics and symbols
- Previous experience with cranes is an asset
- Knowledge and experience in troubleshooting PLCs, VFDs, (Variable Frequency Drive) and DC (Direct Current) motors and drives
- Skilled in diagnostics and troubleshooting of complex electrical and electronic parts
- Basic proficiency working with computers to enter data into our in-house database
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines effectively
- Ability to communicate effectively in English; verbal and written
- Ability to be resilient and maintain professionalism and a positive attitude when working under pressure
- Must have and wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), have fall protection gear and the appropriate certification and ticket(s)
- Must be able to perform physical work including bending, stooping, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and lifting a minimum of 50lbs, climb ladders and cranes
- Must maintain a valid BC Driver’s License with a satisfactory driver abstract and have reliable means of transportation to job sites
- May need to work outdoors on occasion in adverse weather conditions
