Hamilton, Canada GFL Environmental Inc. Full time

GFL Environmental is looking for a Laboratory Technician - Shipping & Receiving to join the growing Liquids team in Hamilton, ON

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Inspect and sample incoming waste materials operation
- Provide chemical and physical QA/QC analysis in support of the Lottridge Street facility
- Complete sample preparation, quality assurance and quality control of material
- Perform analytical tests on material, using both wet chemical and instrumentation methods for detailed trace level analysis, and basic fingerprint receiving criteria
- Responsible for data entry and laboratory record management
- Ensure that results and reports are completed, recorded and appropriately distributed in a timely, efficient and professional manner
- Operate, be able to troubleshoot, and maintain working order of laboratory equipment at all times
- Perform routine instrument preventative maintenance
- Report concerns about samples, analytical results and equipment problems to Management
- Order, track and maintain inventory of day-to-day laboratory supplies and chemicals as required
- Work independently by completing daily tasks accurately and efficiently
- Provide technical support and on-site analytical chemistry expertise as needed
- Review and sign off on paperwork of incoming shipments, as well as for outgoing shipments when required. Report any errors or omissions to the applicable personnel.
- Create the necessary paperwork and labels for all outgoing shipments, including work orders and manifests when required
- Perform physical counts at the end of each month of assigned waste types and storage locations
- Work closely in a team environment with various levels of Management, Supervisors, Logistics and unionized employees

**Knowledge, Skills & Competencies**:

- College diploma or university degree in a related technical or chemical field
- Previous laboratory experience in an industrial environment is preferred
- Previous experience working within a waste management environment is an asset
- Previous Shipping & Receiving experience is an asset
- Previous experience with a GC and Karl Fischer is an asset
- Familiar with environmental regulations (CEPA, Ontario Reg. 347/558, TDG, etc.) is an asset
- Must be proficient is MS Office, including Excel, Word and Outlook
- Must have an ability to adjust to rapidly shifting priorities and work with mínimal supervision
- Must be able to provide direction to plant staff for instructions in the yard
- Must be able to assess risks related to mixing chemical products
- Proven communication (written / verbal) and mathematical skills
- Effective organizational and interpersonal skills

**Working Conditions**:

- This position requires staff to be in an office/laboratory, as well as on the floor, working outdoors in all seasons for at least part of their work day
- Must be able to lift up to 40 to 50 pounds
- Position requires the ability to stand for long periods of time and walking
- Flexible working hours i.e. starting prior to 4:00PM to meet operational needs of the business
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment which may include hard hats, eye protection, hearing protection, respirators, flame retardant clothing and safety boots
