**General Statement of Duties**:
The Derrickhand is responsible for operating and maintaining the derrick and associated equipment during drilling operations. This role involves working at heights, handling heavy machinery, and collaborating closely with other crew members to ensure safe and efficient drilling processes.
**Supervision Received**:
The Derrickhand directly reports to and receives directions from the Driller and Rig Manager. May also consult with or receive instructions from the oil company representatives.
**Supervision exercised**:
Assists in the supervision and training of Motorhands, Floorhands and Leasehands.
**Summary of Duties (Duties may include, but are not limited to the following**)**:
Operating Equipment
- Monitor fluid holding tanks and drilling fluid properties and adjust to maintain optimal drilling conditions.
- Assist in the assembly, disassembly, and operation of the derrick and related equipment, including the hoisting system, blocks, and tackle.
- Operate drilling fluid systems to circulate mud and control wellbore pressure during drilling operations.
- Ensure mud pumps are properly maintained and operating efficiently.
- Understand the pump manifold and ensure that pump lines are secure.
- Ensure 100% tie-off on any elevated levels and understand how to close in the well if required.
- Monitor and maintain proper drilling fluid characteristics including the rate and pressure of fluid circulation and the mud circulating system.
- Drive mobile equipment as required.
Maintenance of Equipment
- Conduct regular inspections and maintenance on derrick equipment to ensure proper functioning and compliance with safety standards.
- Grease and lubricate moving parts, inspect cables and sheaves for wear, and replace damaged components as needed.
- Identify and troubleshoot mechanical issues to prevent breakdowns and maintain operational efficiency.
- Perform routine drops inspections and log into Done Safe.
- Assist with the equipment preventative maintenance program, including servicing and inspecting equipment for wear and deficiencies, and immediately reporting deficiencies to the rig manager and driller.
Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to safety protocols and regulatory requirements to prevent accidents, injuries and environmental damage. Ensure compliance with all policies and procedures outlined by Savanna Drilling, government agencies and customers, as required.
- Perform assigned tasks safely, efficiently and within the parameters of industry regulations and Company policies.
- Work on and above the drilling floor, ensuring the proper safety equipment is utilized for the task being performed.
- Participate in safety meetings/SOP reviews and assist with pre-operation safety checks on equipment.
- Promote a culture of safety by being knowledgeable of Savanna’s HSE Program and initiatives, and actively practicing adherence to HSE policy, procedures and practices. Follow company and industry recommended best practices, industry directives and legislative requirements.
Personnel Supervision
- Assist in the training and development of new and less experienced workers.
- Assist with supervision of new and less experienced workers, assigning tasks based on workers competency.
Reporting & Documentation
- Report on mud levels and ensure adequate provision of mud supplies.
- Report routine drop inspections in Done Safe.
**Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:

- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage his/her own time and tasks effectively to meet operational demands.

**Education and Experience**:
- Must have valid H2S Alive ticket, Standard First Aid, CSO, Confined Space Rescue ticket, Fall Protection ticket, Loader Training and Rig Rescue ticket.
- Relevant experience of field work in the oilfield services industry. Previous experience will ideally include supervisory responsibility.
