**Job Description: Orton-Gillingham (OG) Educator**

**JOB TITLE**:
Orton-Gillingham (OG) Educator

**MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB**:
The Orton-Gillingham Educator will support the Centre for Diverse Learners Orton-Gillingham
Tutoring Program: A one-on-one remedial tutoring program primarily targeted towards children that have a suspected or diagnosed Learning Disability who are having trouble in reading, writing, and spelling. Tutors will design a customized program and deliver effective instruction using the Orton-Gillingham approach that is tailored to meet the individual needs of their students.

This is a part-time, permanent position with flexible hours, determined by student numbers and need.

**COMPENSATION**

Renumeration can range from $35-$50+ per hour, depending on level of experience and certification with the academy. For staff interested in ongoing progression or certification with the Academy, we offer financial support for training courses and practicums.

Additional support as an employee with CDL includes vacation and statutory holiday pay, materials and assessments, IT platforms and support, provision of clients, billing of clients, insurance, paid professional development, and regular meetings with our team of highly experienced OG staff to offer guidance and support.

Program Manager and/or OG Instructional Lead

**DIRECT REPORTS**:
N/A

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Review of psycho-education assessments, medical assessments, and individual education plans for each student, where available, to determine their fit with the program
- Conduct pre
- and post-assessments of each student to determine individual needs and progress in the program.
- Utilize assessments to design appropriate instructional interventions and lesson plans that are built upon student need and incorporate Orton-Gillingham pedagogy.
- Perform ongoing evaluations of the student’s progress throughout the year and provide an annual report/interview with parents at the end of the year.
- Create a safe and welcoming environment for each student that celebrates their successes whilst supporting them with their challenges.
- Maintain supportive, positive and respectful communications with parents
- Work collaboratively as part of the OG team to increase knowledge throughout the organization.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Orton-Gillingham certification through the Orton-Gillingham Academy of Practitioners and Educators, or current enrollment in training program
- A Bachelor’s Degree in education, reading, English language, or another relevant field
- Experience teaching children, adolescents, or young adults with diverse learning needs, including those with diagnosed or suspected learning disabilities, ADHD, high-functioning autism and any associated mental health conditions that impact learning.
- Strong understanding of Dyslexia and other Learning Disabilities.
- Experience teaching reading and writing and implementing evidence-based structured literacy.
- A repertoire of instructional strategies to motivate and engage students and a willingness to commit to each student’s growth and academic success.
- Criminal Record Check with the vulnerable sector
