ROLE
As a Registered Practical Nurse working within MAHC’s Critical Care Unit (ICU) you will help support various teams that are in need you’re your skills and expertise.
- Administer direct nursing care for patients in those areas assigned.
- Plans, organizes, and delivers nursing care in a variety of settings.
- Plans for and communicates to other nursing staff regarding patient needs and priorities when leaving one patient care area to ensure continuity of care.
- Communicates to physicians, other departments or organizations, regarding issues affecting patient care.
- Participates in quality control activities and understands the quality care goals of the organization. The individual is vigilant in ensuring that quality issues are brought to the attention of the appropriate manager/coordinator.
- Performs other duties as required including occasional escort duties for patients being transferred to other institutions for diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.
- Initiate and assist in Code Blue & Rapid Response procedure.
- Participate in educational activities to maintain and advance competency and experience in all areas of patient care.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION(S)
- Current registration as a Registered Practical Nurse in good standing with College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Current CPR - HCP (Health Care Provider).
- IV Certified.
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE(S)
- Minimum of 2-3 years of current experience as a Nurse in an acute care setting
- A nurse who has varied clinical experience and enjoys a variety of patient care areas is suited to this role.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to function as a team member in a variety of settings are essential.
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
- Ability to organize, prioritize and function well under stress and crisis situations
- Ability to work all shifts.
- Regular and punctual attendance is a requirement of this position.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Location: South Muskoka Memorial Hospital (SMMH) located in Bracebridge
Department: ICU
Hours of Work: Must be available to work shifts including days, evenings, nights and weekends. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements per the collective agreement.
As a condition of employment, external hires are required to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination to the Hospital’s Occupational Health and Safety department.
