Located on Leq’á:mel traditional territory near Deroche, B.C. The Leq’á:mel Development Corporation (LDC) is owned by Leq’á:mel First Nation and is the business entity that champions economic development activities for the Nation. This position will work very closely with identified partners, Development Proponents and the Leq’á:mel First Nation Lands and Natural Resources Department (LNRD) to jointly achieve key economia development goals based on strategic initiatives of the LFN Membership, Chief and Council, and the LDC Board of Directors.

With a large number of economic development activities in development and planned, the LDC has a unique opportunity for an Economic Development Assistant (EDA). This new term position will support the collection and flow of information related to specific projects that will support and assist with project success. The EDA will work with others to support the initiation and successful completion of the economic objectives of the LDC occurring on Leq’á:mel Lands as defined in the Leq’á:mel Land Code (and potentially other LDC projects occurring off-reserve) in a way that complies with and supports the self-government efforts of LFN as operationalized by the LNRD. Fostering a collaborative, positive worI‹ing relationship between the LDC and LNRD, the EDA will assist in the creation and implementation of the Leq’á:mel Economia Development Working Group (LEDWG). The LEDWG is envisioned as a technical, non-political coordinating body that supports LFN and LDC staff, promoting an integration and smooth, principled completion of the shared objectives of the LDC and LNRD. The EDA will help foster a shared understanding within the LEDGW of LFN’s community-driven vision, goals and objectives as they relate to Community Economic Development and Governance.

Key Responsibilities
- Support and/or complete the following:

- Strengthen relationships between LFN, LNRD and LDC, and support and coordinate the activities of the LEDWG, including:

- Supporting the creation, review and approval of a LEDWG Terms of Referente.
- Understand and communicate the respective roles & responsibilities of all parties within the LEDWG.
- Scheduling, organizing and supporting LEDWG regular meetings and related logistics (E.g. developing meeting agendas, information sharing, talking meeting minutes, arranging for venues, caterers, invite lists), as well as assisting LFN and LDC prepare for project development-related meetings.
- Supporting the development of a LEDGW Worl‹ Plan and Community Engagement plan.
- Establish data sharing, records management and communications protocols.
- ldentifying and supporting capacity building, relationship building and other training and learning opportunities for LEDGW members (e.g. Land Code 101).
- Knowledge mobilization within the LEDGW and with LFN members, residents and tenants, on the following topic areas:

- Working with the LDC and LFN to understand and communicate shared economic visions, goals, objectives, projects and activities occurring on Leq’á:mel Lands.
- Working with the LNRD to build awareness and commitment of LDC, Project Partners and Development Proponents, and Permit Applicants/Holders to fulfill the Leq’á:mel Land Code and related Laws, Plans and Policies, and process and information/documentation requirements as they relate to Land Development (e.g. creation and granting of leases and sub-leases, Leq’á:mel Land Development Guidelines)
- Support community economic development meetings to launch projects and community engagement, including Leq’á:mel Family Advisory Committee and other Committees, Chief & Council, and general community, membership and resident meetings.
- Provide support to others as directed by LEDWG.
- Complete door to door delivery of documents and materials as needed.
- Support the LDC in development and submission of completed Applications to LNRD as required under Leq’á:mel Law, including support in the following areas:

- Supporting and liaising with Project Proponents, Partners and Consultants in the collection and submission of conceptual designs, engineering drawings, studies and assessments for LNRD/LFN review, revision and approval.
- Assist with the coordination, completion and submission of project assessments (e.g.
- Cultural Heritage/Archaeology, Environmental, Geotechnical, etc.) for LFN review, revisions and approval.
- Creation of project work plans and regulatory compliance schedules, in concert with LFN requirements and LDC project milestones.
- Support the coordination of permit signing and compliance with construction partners.
- Complete filing of confidential and non-confidential documents as needed.
