Vice President of Product Development

**Job Purpose**:
The VP of Product Development & Innovation at Tantalus Labs is responsible for ideating, developing, and launching new Tantalus products into the Canadian cannabis market. They are able to use real time market sales data, personal experience, and their own developed intuition to deeply understand Canadian cannabis consumers.
They match market desires and new product opportunities to the operational capabilities of our organization. Working closely with both the sales & marketing team and the production team, they will steer new product development timelines up until the point of product launch, and maintain a consistent pipeline of new product innovation throughout the year across cannabis formats, categories, sizes, and cultivars. This is a senior role with contribution to profit and loss ownership along with VP National Sales, COO, CFO, and CEO.
As a leader of the portfolio portfolio, market and sales data curiosity and a desire for product feedback should lead your team and customer interactions. Ideation of novel products should be balanced with daily execution alongside a diverse team to ensure products launch on scheduled timelines.
**Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Be the leading voice on cannabis product trends at the company, identifying and advocating for new opportunities
- Manage and lead an ongoing cycle schedule of new product development
- Focus not just on portfolio depth, but also breadth, helping to identify new volume SKUs and product formats for our successful products to proliferate further to new consumption cases and volume preferences
- Ideate new products, develop the business case, and present product pitches internally to executives to seek approvals for a new product launch
- Constructively debate with executive assumptions and orthodoxies related to existing or potential new products, relying on highly effective communication and relationship skills, a detailed understanding of industry trends, and concrete data
- Manage a program of research and development testing with a hand selected group of product testers, including ongoing tests of current production batches and upcoming new products in development
- Clearly define and communicate product requirements, and set operational timelines alongside input from Ops team
- Communicate first production batches and product launch timelines to sales and marketing team members, to ensure product launches are a well choreographed sequence of events
- Work closely with the cultivation, demand planning, and wholesale teams to propose and schedule future cultivar selection and growing cycles
- Develop pitch decks to communicate product features and benefits internally to the sales team, including Q&A materials on product specifications
- Join sales representatives on sales calls to key accounts and distributors,, to pitch new products and educate on product knowledge
**Qualifications**:
- Proven project management experience
- 5+ Years of experience in a high-growth CPG organization
- 5+ years experience in a rapidly evolving project management environment
- A deep understanding of cannabis products and consumption trends
**Working Conditions**:
- ~1 day/week working location at facility (Maple Ridge, BC)
- Office Location Mt. Pleasant Vancouver
