Our Whiteshell Laboratories (WL) site near Pinawa, Manitoba, is seeking a **Fire Prevention Officer**. This role would have you be responsible for coordinating and supervising Fire Prevention in meeting the day-to-day challenges, providing fire inspection services regarding fire code compliance, Fire Protection Screenings, “Hot Work” inspections and support to Facilities Decommissioning and Environmental Remediation Management. Can you see yourself being an integral component to ensuring the safety of CNL employees, visitors and contractors by reducing the potential for fire incidents to occur across the site? If so, this may be your role for you, as this work would be carried out through the close working relationships built by Fire Prevention Team with our fire protection engineers, fire department personnel, and other CNL staff is vital to ensuring that all our site remains in compliance with the National Fire Code and best in class industry standards. **What will you be doing?**
- Scheduling and conducting all fire and life safety inspections on all buildings and lands at CNL - Whiteshell Remediation Site.
- Following up on actions to make sure they are completed before the due date.
- Keeping the Fire database up-to-date and ensuring the Fire database meets the Fire Prevention requirements.
- Supporting offsite inspections and remediation of findings.
- Addressing Fire Code violations and fire safety hazards within the authority of the NFCC, NBCC, NFPA 801 and/or CSA N393, as mandated by WL Site License.
- Reviewing and recommending alternative compliance solutions for approval pursuant to the NBCC.
- Preparing reports and maintaining records detailing building information, code violations and actions to be taken.
- Assigning and/or completing fire investigations per 900-508720-MCP-001 and NFPA 1033 - Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Investigator.
- Conducting “Hot Work” inspections when required and completing audits of the Hot Work process.
- Reading and interpreting building plans, blueprints, site plans, construction plans and specifications.
- Performing public relations activities, including presenting fire prevention and safety seminars to employees and specialty groups.
- Delivering education programs and training related to fire safety, such as fire extinguisher use.
- May be required to participate off-site in a municipal setting, as a representative of CNL, for the purpose of providing public fire and life safety education and training and Manitoba Fire Code fire safety inspections.
- Participating member of the Site Safety Health Committee and Electrical Safety Committee.
- Completing weekly highlights as required by the WL Fire Chief.
- Completing Quarterly NPARB reports as required by the WL Fire Chief.
- Completing monthly safety slides for CNL.
- Participates in the pre-incident plan review and inspection process when required.
- Scheduling focused inspections as directed by the WL Fire Chief and/or Program Authority.
- Establishing and maintaining a high standard of professionalism, integrity, reliability and credibility are fundamental requirements for this position.
- Functioning as an integral member of the CNL Fire Protection Program to deliver and support the vision and mission statements

**What we are looking for**:

- Security clearance eligibility required: Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security”.
- Certification to NFPA 1021 - Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications Level 2 preferred or acquired within 1 year of start date.
- Certification to NFPA 1031 -Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Inspector and Plan Examiner Level 2 preferred. Consideration given to Level 1 certification with Level 2 within 1 year of start date.
- Certification to NFPA 1033 - Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Investigator.
- Certification to NFPA 1035 - Standard for Professional Qualifications for Public Fire and Life Safety Educator.
- Successful completion of NFPA 1041 - Standard for Fire Service Instructor Professional Qualifications Level 1.
- Post-secondary education in Fire Protection Technology would be an asset.
- Possession of a valid minimum First Aid Certificate (CPR).
- Demonstrated experience or knowledge of sprinkler and fire alarm systems.
- Experience in inspections and enforcement of regulations.
- Expertise in reading blueprints, floor plans etc.
- Expertise in the delivery of Public Education.
- Ability to work a compressed work week.
- Must possess the ability to walk long distances, bend, crawl and climb ladders/scaffolding while conducting inspection
