Recreation Coordinator

**PRIMARY FOCUS**:
The Recreation Coordinator (RC) shall provide social and recreational services designed in consultation with residents and Emmanuel Villa resident care providers to meet the social and recreational needs, and interests and capabilities of each resident to enhance the quality of each resident’s life. The RC is responsible to plan, coordinate, deliver, and evaluate each recreational activity. The RC must ensure the environment and timing is appropriate for the designed recreational activity and maintain documentation of resident preferences and participation in recreation activities in individual resident care plans.
**JOB CONTEXT**:
The Recreation Coordinator will:
- plan, co-ordinate and evaluate recreation activities.
- provide adequate space for the recreation program ensure the environment is safe for the designed activity.
- addresses spiritual, emotional, physical, and psychological needs of all residents when planning activities.
- interviews resident and/or family to complete the Recreation Therapy Assessment and plan appropriate recreation.
- orientates, trains, and collaborates with volunteers.
- ensure that recreational activities either in group or 1:1 are accessible to all residents and available at all reasonable times.
- assess residents’ desires and capabilities for recreational activities, document resident preferences and incorporate resident preferences into the recreational programing.
- document resident participation in recreation activities on the resident’s care plan.
- consistently communicates the recreation activities to residents, families and other community members as appropriate thereby offering opportunity for others to participate with residents in a social recreational setting.
- creates an atmosphere which encourages resident participation in recreational activities as well as innovative ideas from the care team.
- budgets for the activity program requirements and makes recommendations to the DOC for recreational resources and miscellaneous needs.
- evaluate the recreational program on a routine basis, at least annually, to ensure it is a resident centered program (considers the individual needs of the residents).
- adhere to infection prevention and control policies and principles.
- participate in quality improvement
- collaborates with church pastors and setting times of worship service
- arranges for external entertainers
- maintain confidentiality of all patient information and adhere to HIPAA legislation.
- support a safe, physical, and psychosocial environment for residents.
- support and promote a safe work environment and safe work practices.
- tactfully and courteously work with residents, residents’ families, and visitors.
- promote and respect the Residents Bill of Rights.
- maintain knowledge of the organization’s fire safety plan and participate in fire drills.
- adhere to TLR principles.
- perform other duties as directed.
**SPECIFIC ACOUNTABILITIES**:
1. Delivers quality resident centered recreational services.
2. Collaborates with Emmanuel Villa staff to gain input on the resident’s desires and preferences for social and recreational activities.
3. Maintains a resident centered approach by assessing each individual resident’s needs, interests, and capabilities and documents the same.
4. Tracks and documents each resident’s participation in group and 1:1 recreational activities.
5. Responsible for effectively communicating activity programs to all staff, residents and residents’ families and the community as they apply. Produces a monthly or weekly newsletter with this communication as a goal.
6. Maintains current knowledge through education/training to better serve the residents and promote wellness.
**QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS**:
1. Diploma in recreation/leisure studies from a recognized Community College or University preferred.
2. Course(s) and/or experience in Gerontology and Recreation Therapy.
3. Demonstrated ethics, leadership, and organizational skills.
4. Flexible schedule: ability to work evenings and/or weekends as required.
5. Excellent communication skills.
6. 3 to 5 years’ experience in long-term care preferred
7. Knowledge of community resources.
**ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE**:
Reports to the Director of Care (DOC).
**WORKING CONDITIONS**:
- Must be able to concentrate in an environment that provides constant interruption and change.
- Flexible and organized to work within deadlines and meet target dates.
- Walking, including walking stairs as an essential job function.
- Pushing, pulling, bending, crouching, and kneeling for short periods of time as a essential job function.
- Lifting, carrying, and transporting objects of various sizes as an essential job function.

**Salary**: $16.00-$20.00 per hour
