**Description**:

- Under the responsibility of Service & Maintenance Manager, the incumbent for this position performs various tasks in assistance to qualified tradesmen in areas such as carpentry, painting, heating, ventilation, electricity, maintenance and plumbing.
- More specifically, but not limited to, the Trades Helper:
- Verifies systems: electrical, ventilation, heating, etc;
- Identifies problems within the College (classrooms, labs, offices, etc.) and alerts the Manager;
- Performs preliminary repair work on the College’s buildings or equipment, in assistance to qualified tradesmen;
- Carries out tasks for the upkeep and maintenance of the College, including minor repairs of the building and grounds;
- Maintains a safe environment for self and others; applies the safety and security principles set by the law, regulatory organisms and Vanier College;
- Moves furniture, merchandise or material manually or by operating required equipment;
- May be called upon to use IT or communication technologies as required by the work to be done.

Other related tasks which fall within the scope of the classification of this position may be assigned.
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:15 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (38.75 hours per week)

- Conditions related to the specific position:
- Possess the legal or regulatory qualifications appropriate to this class of employment and two (2) years of relevant experience in work related to several other trades or,
- Hold a Diploma of Vocational Studies (DEP) with appropriate option and three (3) years of relevant experience;
- Proven ability to perform physical labor;
- Practical knowledge of appropriate trades, an asset;
- Functional oral and written communication skills in English (to be tested);
- Basic oral communication skills in French (to be tested);
- Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook;
- Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License;
- Forklift certified, an asset.
