**ABOUT THE ROLE**

The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) is a 8-month, full-time contract position that provides a range of high-quality clinical services to children and caregivers, as well as refer to and consult with other professionals with the purpose of helping children achieve their optimal communication potential. The SLP provides clinical supervision to Supportive Personnel (i.e., Communicative Disorders Assistants).

**_ Salary range:_** _$75,758 to $85,297 per annum_

This position is represented by OPSEU local 567.

**WHAT YOU WILL DO**
- Provide a range of high-quality clinical services to children from birth to school entry, and their caregivers, to support and promote the development of the children’s communication skills:

- Conduct informal and formal assessments.
- Counsel caregivers regarding assessment results, and others as directed by the family, to inform and educate about areas of concern and recommendations.
- Establish service delivery plan and intervention goals and modify plan/ goals as needed to ensure provision of appropriate services.
- Provide direct intervention on an individual or group basis, both of which include parent coaching components.
- Make recommendations and referrals to clients and their families to other community programs and professionals, coordinate services for children with multiple needs, and consult to other professionals
- Conduct educational workshops for parents/ caregivers on pertinent speech and language topics.
- Supervise the clinical work of support personnel.
- Deliver Preschool Speech and Language Program services within the local community to ensure easily accessible, high-quality services to our clients, and to build community capacity for promoting speech and language development and early identification of communication delays
- Complete all job-related administrative duties in a timely manner.
- Liaise with PSL staff from other geographic services areas and other Strides staff to participate in the development and promotion of PSL initiatives.
- Participate in ongoing professional development activities to ensure provision of up-to-date service delivery approaches.
- Actively participate in implementing the organization’s policy on health and safety program

**THE “MUST HAVES”**

The following education, professional memberships and knowledge are a requirement for this role:

- Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
- Registered and in good standing with College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO).
- Awareness of the role of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace and within the community being served by the position.
- An understanding of anti-black racism, anti-oppressive/anti-racism perspective in the context of the social determinants of health.
- Ability to recognize and identify situations where incidents of imbalance of power and privilege may occur and can result in possible negative impacts.

**THE ‘NICE TO HAVES’**
- 2 years of experience working as a speech-language pathologist is an asset.
- Previous experience working in a Preschool Speech and Language program is an asset.
- Previous experience providing clinical services to children within the 0-school age entry range, low and/or high tech AAC systems, and/or with social communication differences are assets.
- Fluency in Cantonese or Mandarin is an asset.
- Functional computer and client information system knowledge.
