Youth Early Intervention & Outreach Worker (Mental Health Crisis Intervener)

This position is responsible for the provision of early intervention and outreach services to youth as identified in the Provincial Policy Framework for Mental Health and Addictions and related strategies. Early intervention refers to measures taken for populations identified as being at risk for, or already engaged in, harmful behaviours or practices. Outreach refers to services that actively "reach out" and provide help to those who would not otherwise look for support in the community. The incumbent will work in conjunction with community organizations providing services to youth and in collaboration with the Regional Prevention/Promotion Consultants for Mental Health and Addictions and Mental Health and Addictions Coordinators and Counsellors.
**Duties**:
" Meets and converses with youth in a community settings;
" Demonstrates a non-judgmental attitude in responding to youths' perspectives and choices;
" Assists with the design, delivery and promotion of mental health and substance abuse programs and services for youth;
" Screens for potential problem substance abuse use and mental health concerns;
" Links youth with services that address basic needs, such as shelter, food and clothing or health care;
" Assists youth in navigating the system and understanding referral processes;
" Accompanies youth to preliminary appointments with health care and other service providers;
" Provides supportive counselling services;
" Establishes and maintains partnerships with youth-serving agencies and community groups;
" Performs other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications: Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution in the area of social sciences (e.g., child and youth care, community studies). Specialized training in addictions, mental health and motivational interviewing would be an asset. Experience working with children and youth is required. Ability to establish and sustain rapport with youth who mistrust or challenge authority; actively listen and elicit youth perspectives; collaborate with other service providers without compromising their alliance with the youth.
- A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.

Hours of Work: 75 Hours per pay period
0830-1630 Hours; Monday-Friday; days, nights and weekends.
Flexible hours required.
Salary Scale: $31.66 to $35.32 per Hour
