Reporting to the Lead, Influenza & Emerging Respiratory Pathogens Team and working within that team, this Biostatistician position will provide analytical/statistical support of surveillance, applied research and evaluation activities, notably SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 and influenza vaccine effectiveness, to inform real-time risk assessment and program and policy recommendations. Opportunities to contribute to study design, analysis plan, peer-reviewed publication, and presentations. Statistical skills and ability to use a variety of software tools, notably R and SAS, including macros and SQL, with related data management, data cleaning, analysis and visualization skills important. Experience in health care and especially public health considered an asset.

**What you’ll do**:

- Develop statistical models and conduct analyses with rigorous coding, documentation and record-keeping.
- Create and manipulate datasets using appropriate software and analyzes data to provide statistical reports. Investigate new methodologies and generates statistical models in consultation with other experts. Investigate and address validity issues; highlight strengths and limitations of analytical approaches.
- Contribute to study and database design, analysis plans, and methodological approaches and conduct statistical analyses in support of related investigations of the Canadian Sentinel Practitioner Surveillance Network (SPSN) under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and Medical Lead of the Influenza and Emerging Respiratory Pathogens Team within the Communicable Diseases and Immunization Service, at the BC Centre for Disease Control, notably pertaining to vaccine and communicable disease monitoring, prevention and control.
- Communicate with the faculty at UBC and members of study and protocol teams, as well as key stakeholders such as medical health officers and others in regional health authorities and peers in other jurisdictions at the provincial and federal level as required for collaborative work.

**What you bring**:

- A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Master's degree in biostatistics.
- Five (5) years of recent related experience in in a health analytics, health research or health information field.
- Experience with analysis/interpretation of medical/health related data such as Epidemiology, Health Services Research, and Biostatistics and in particular in the areas of public health, communicable disease and/or vaccines.

**You have**:

- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Proficient skills in accuracy and attention to detail.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft operating systems, Excel, Access, Word.
- Demonstrated ability to use statistical software including SAS and R and to perform computer programming and database querying.
- Knowledge and understanding of legal and ethical requirements for data sharing and linkage.
- Strong evidence of self-directed, self-motivated and independent analytical and research skills.
- The ability to prioritize, implement and oversee multiple time-sensitive projects.
