Job Overview
The Assessment and Customer divisions are responsible for the creation and defence of the annual assessment roll. Through the services provided, we reflect the strategic importance of customers and ensure customer-centricity and accountability for the customer process. As a Data Collector, you would be responsible for supporting the assessment function by collecting physical, economic, legal and related data on assigned property types and performing administrative functions related to the production of the annual assessment roll.
This critical role may involve travel of up to 6-12 weeks per year, depending on location.

Key Accountabilities
Roll Preparation and Defence:
- Performs inspections on new properties, or changes to existing properties; measures to verify accuracy or identify changes to be made to assessment records.- Conducts inventory collection, verification and data maintenance work. Assigns manual class on improvements.- Reviews sale documentation for prices and financing to determine the nature of the sale and Manufactured Home documentation for relevant transactions- Retrieves electronic or hard copy documents (e.g. building plans, web-fiche, land-use maps, and property records) and correctly codes associated folios.
General Administration:
- Opens and distributes incoming mail; reconciles invoices; inputs data into databases; records and tracks receipt of incoming responses; tracks distribution and receipt of documents for a variety of properties.- Prepares and sends outgoing mail to property owners and others; tracks returns from property owners.- Updates address changes in the system.- Maintains a multi-user electronic filing system by filing, storing and/or retrieving a variety of documents; archives and disposes of documents.- Develops and formats spreadsheets, graphs, charts and forms
Quality Assurance:
- Reviews and verifies ownership information/data for the purposes of identifying inconsistencies and correcting codes (e.g. sales documents, income and expense statements; type of ownership; ownership changes; quality assurance audits, etc.)- Reviews and verifies accuracy of vendor or property information (e.g. titles, legal description, property size; joint tenants or tenants in common; and legal terms; etc.).
Customer Service and Other Duties:
- Represents BC Assessment’s interests when interacting with clients, such as property owners while inspecting properties, and with local government staff when gathering information.-
- Responds to Regional and Departmental inquiries related to work programs and data collection.- Conducts routine internal data audits; reviews and corrects coding or data errors.- Queries, sorts and compiles data for the purposes of analysis and identifies inconsisten
