JBH is a Clinical Education site in conjunction with McMaster University, and designated as an Academic Community Teaching Hospital. Its expanded campus includes the state-of-the-art Michael Lee-Chin & Family Patient Tower, featuring a new Emergency Department, 295 acute inpatient beds, 9 new Operating Rooms, and post-anaesthetic care unit to support expanded medical, surgical, and outpatient services. JBH is also a partner member of the Burlington Ontario Health Team (OHT).
**Responsibilities**
Duties will include, but will not be limited to:
- Answer phone calls - relay messages, liaise between staff, physicians, units and public
- Comply with ORBC statistics and Safer Health Care Now
- Maintain data base for Management Information System (MIS) Stats as required
- Collect and distribute monthly statistics as required
- Create and circulate daily procedure list for next 24 hours under the direction of the Manager
- Schedule elective procedures and maintain physician operating blocks in Meditech
- Schedule emergency cases as required
- Initiate calls as required
- Communicate available Operating Room (OR) time to physicians/offices
- Enter records for OR/APU/Cataract/Endoscopy procedures as required
- Review and inform staff of incomplete or inaccurate records
- Direct and assist visitors (including sales reps, maintenance, etc.) to appropriate personnel as necessary
- Order and maintain inventory of supplies
- Provide coverage and support in the OR Main/ OR Booking/ APU/ Endoscopy
- Other duties as per department needs
**Qualifications**:
- Diploma Program or equivalent in related field is required
- Medical Terminology level 1 and 2 required; may be obtained through related Diploma Program
- Demonstrated advanced computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and data entry
- Knowledge of Meditech OR Scheduling Module/ Order Entry (OE)/ Electronic Medical Records (EMR) required
- Current or recent Clerk IV experience required (within the last 2 years)
- Current or recent Operating Room experience is required (within the last 2 years)
- Experience with MIS & ORBC stats is preferred
- Recent experience with BCS Eventus booking procedures is preferred
- Comprehensive understanding of IPAC standards and its relationship to the Operating Room
- Demonstrated accurate typing skills with typing speed of at least 60 w.p.m. is required (testing will be conducted)
- Ability to work independently, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines under pressure while working in a busy environment with regular interruptions
- Working knowledge of Vendor processes and ability to provide direction to them
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated reliable attendance, punctuality, performance, and flexibility required
