**Mission **Statement**

The Regina Open Door Society (RODS) is a non-profit organization that provides settlement and integration services to refugees and immigrants in Regina. RODS is committed to meeting the needs of newcomers by offering programs and services to enable them to achieve their goals and participate fully in the larger community.

**Position **Summary**:
The position's primary responsibility is to provide professional task-based English as a Subsequent Language instruction to adult refugee and immigrant learners while increasing their understanding of Canadian local, social, workplace and cultural norms. Language training is conducted in alignment with the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) and the progress outcomes are assessed using the Portfolio-Based Language Assessment (PBLA) framework. Evaluation of learners, short and long-term instructional planning (lesson and unit planning) and regular reporting are position requirements. The class time for this position is from 6:30 p.m. until 8:45 p.m.

The position requires deep understanding and comprehensive knowledge of second language acquisition, ESL literacy, adult education, and ESL teaching methodologies. Strong communication (oral and written), organizational and problem-solving skills are essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively in a cross
- cultural setting.

**Requirements**:

- TESL SK and/or TESL Canada accreditation.
- Formal TESL training and classroom experience.
- B.ED. or related degree; consideration will also be given to a combination of a related university degree and formal TESL training/work experience.
- Knowledge of and experience working within the Canadian Language Benchmarks framework and implementing Portfolio-Based Language assessments in the classroom.
- Knowledge of and experience teaching online and using different platforms to deliver lessons, support learners, and evaluate learners' progress.
- Experience and sensitivity in working with newcomers to Canada including those with limited English language skills
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and organization skills. Proven accountability, resourcefulness and professionalism.
- Strong ability to work collaboratively in a cross-cultural setting.
- Strong technological skills; knowledge of online teaching platforms, experience with online service delivery.

**Duties and **Responsibilities**:

- Plan and deliver communicative, task-based, outcomes-focused English Language instruction aligned with the CLB curriculum guidelines in a classroom setting (both in-person and on-line)
- Employ a thematic approach to teaching based on Canadian culture and settlement and integration life skills.
- Use Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA) methodology and guidelines to assess students' progress.
- Provide on-going needs-assessment and evaluation to ensure clients' language needs are met.
- Foster a positive, supportive and inclusive learning environment for learners.
- Maintain up-to-date, accurate class records; enter attendance records into computerized database on a daily basis; submit required monthly reports in a timely manner.
- Collaborate proactively with LINC administration when making referrals for students and assist in resolving any student issues.
