SALARY RANGE: $24.80 to $27.51 per hour

HOURS OF WORK: 36.25 hours per week

LOCATION: Upper Canada Village, 11 km east of Morrisburg

**WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO DO IN THIS ROLE?**

You will:

- Interpret the life, work, skills, and activities of a musician and public entertainer in the 19th century.
- Develop and participate in 19th century musical and public entertainment.
- Undertake historical research in support of all music and entertainment activities in terms of acceptable musical instruments, music, skits, performances, dances, etc.
- Provide guidance, leadership, and direction to other staff involved in all aspects of music and entertainment at Upper Canada Village.
- Assist with school, youth, and education programmes and provide support for on-site events and programs.
- Interpret village life and the features of a small rural 1860’s village.
- Support Upper Canada Village programming and customer service initiatives.
- Ensure the safety of visitors and staff and protect the resources of the site.
- Embody the SLPC’s equity, diversity and inclusion principles while interacting with staff and guests.

**HOW DO I QUALIFY?**

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

You have:

- In-depth knowledge of entertainment and music of the 19th century.
- Knowledge of the social, economic, and political environment of 19th century Canada.
- Knowledge of customer service, interpretive and music instruction techniques.
- Knowledge of historical research techniques and available resources.

MUSICAL AND ENTERTAINMENT KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

You have:

- Knowledge of the proper use, handling, repair and maintenance of period musical instruments and reproductions of these instruments.
- Demonstrated ability to read and play historically accurate 19th century instruments to the caliber expected of Upper Canada Village music interpreters.
- Demonstrated ability to demonstrate and perform scripted and unscripted forms of 19th century public entertainment.

COMMUNICATION, CUSTOMER SERVICE AND LEADERSHIP SKILLS

You have:

- Strong verbal communication skills, including the ability to speak and present information to large numbers of visitors of varied ages and backgrounds; to respond effectively to customer questions and concerns; to prepare related interpretive materials and provide guidance and instruction to staff; and, to liaise with outside contractors/service providers, e.g., hired performers, specialized repair contractors, etc.
- The ability to learn historical and technical music-related information to present it well to visitors.
- Strong teamwork and leadership skills to provide instruction and guidance to other seasonal staff, student staff and volunteers involved in performances.
