- Reporting to the Coordinator of Library Services, the Library Technician - Level III provides direct supervision to the Comox Valley Library & Learning Commons Public Services Team, including evening, weekend, on-call, and Student Assistants, in consistent practice standards to ensure delivery of excellent library services to students, faculty and staff at North Island College. Responsibilities include scheduling staff, organizing team tasks, circulation and interlibrary loan services, space planning and utilization, creating research guides, updating the Library & Learning Commons website, working with Library & Learning Commons’ staff to deliver excellent services and providing overall support to the Librarians. This position requires a pro-active and well organized individual, with highly developed oral and written communications skills, a high level of competence with electronic information resources and emerging technologies, and a commitment to providing a welcoming, efficient, and inclusive library culture.**Position Competencies**

**Duties & Responsibilities**
- 1. Provides direct supervision of Comox Valley Library & Learning Commons public services staff including Library Technician Level 1 (temporary staff, evening and weekend staff) and Student Assistants. Responsible for training and supervising staff to align with College and Library & Learning Commons’ policies. Performs supervisory duties including delegating tasks, scheduling, first level signing, and submitting timesheets and advising on work performance;
2. Actively demonstrates the promotion of services and space utilization by maintaining the Library & Learning Commons’ online presence including social media, the design and creation of signage (print & digital), content creation for the Library & Learning Commons’ website and event webpages;
3. Maintains effective working partnerships with Library & Learning Commons faculty and staff through training and management of booking software, research guide development, and operations committee participation;
4. Assesses functional issues and utilizes problem-solving and decision-making skills necessary to provide efficient and effective library services to students, faculty and staff.
5. Provides departmental support to Librarians, including special projects, workshops, online tutorials, open houses, annual staff meetings, research, and administrative duties;
6. Utilizes multiple software platforms for developing presentations, research guides, tutorials, and support service schedules (e.g. Camtasia, Springshare suite, Dreamweaver, Course Management Software (Blackboard Learn), Canva);
7. Leads the selection process of the Student Assistants for the Comox Valley Library & Learning Commons. Advertises positions with Student Employment Services, conducts interviews and reference checks, and coordinates employee packages;
8. Schedules, develops and delivers library orientations, in consultation with Library staff, to promote information literacy;
9. Provides research and information services to support studies up to and including 4 year Degree and Post Degree Diploma.
10. Participates in projects such as evaluating reference databases and provides input into the development of library policies and procedures.
11. Performs circulation duties including charging/discharging library materials, collecting bill payments, processing holds, etc.;
12. Removes flags from student accounts on Colleague, as needed;
13. Maintains print and video collections; performs collection inventory;
14. Processes intercampus/interlibrary loan requests for print and media, using automated systems, following established policies and procedures;
15. Collects, compiles and submits campus library statistics monthly;
16. Processes new books and video for shelf readiness;
17. Troubleshoots problems with equipment such as computers and printers;
18. Advises the Coordinator of Library Services on campus library capital requests;
19. Maintains and updates: Comox Valley Student Manual, CV Library Technicians Manual and CV Temp Manual.
20. Performs other library duties, as required.**Required Education & Experience**
- Library Technician Diploma plus a minimum of 2 years undergraduate studies
