The Project Accountant is a full-time position, reporting to the Controller. The Project Accountant’s primary responsibility it to support the CFO and the Project Management team in the overall day-to-day management of all project-related accounting needs including payments, invoicing, compliance, reporting and other duties related to the project.

The Project Accountant will manage all accounting related functions for multiple assigned projects. Project Accountants may be expected to travel to project sites for job status review meetings.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Budgeting_
- Set up and review, and monitor budget information for the various projects and maintain project-related records
- Communicate with the Project Management team regarding contract documents, change orders and other contract modifications, approvals, and any additional services-related to the project budgets
- Report associated budget amendments or revisions due to changes in the contract and change orders
- Analyze costs vs. budgets, determine variances between budgets and actuals, and provide plans and opinions to resolve and report findings to management
- Review sales, and vendor invoices related to each of the projects, and ensure compliance for each project
- Ensure all invoices are coded and allocated to the right accounts, review misallocated invoices and investigate unbilled expenses to optimize any opportunities for additional billings and the remaining funding available for projects
- Monitor receivable income and support Project Manager(s) with collections
- Reporting_
- Prepare and provide Project Manager(s) and clients with timely financial reports
- Assist in preparing monthly P&L reports
- Prepare month-end and year-end reports for the projects, monthly cost and profitability reports, and monthly accrual entries
- Make projections and forecast the costs and income for the projects for future months until its completion
- Closeout project accounts upon project completion
- Communication_
- Support external auditor and reporting requirements
- Maintain confidentiality, professionalism and integrity in managing client data
- _Health and Safety_
- Ensure that self and others adhere to Canstar’s health and safety practices and procedures
- Ensure good housekeeping is kept to perform work safely and efficiently
- Understand safety policies and protocols
- Ensure that self and others on site are wearing all required PPE, when required

- paced environment is an asset. Other important attributes of a future Canstar Project Accountant are:
***_Education and Experience_
- 3+ years of construction project accounting and management reporting experience;
- Working towards CPA designation would be an asset
- Extensive experience in project invoicing and billing
- Experience with month-end closings, journal entries, reconciliations, AR/AP and Budget vs Actual reporting
- Experience forecasting and processing job cost reports
- Advanced Excel skills and experience building large Excel spreadsheets and maintaining them, as well as using pivot tables and data mining
- Proficient with MS Office Applications.
- Knowledge Skills and Abilities_
- Knowledge of best practices in accounting
- Knowledge of federal, provincial and local regulations regarding controls, taxes and financial reporting
- Knowledge of revenue recognition and contract requirements for billing
- Effective organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks and be flexible to manage numerous tasks throughout the day while still maintaining a high level of accuracy
- Excellent interpersonal skills and dedicated commitment to providing superior, timely support for all levels of employees, management and external client
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Well developed analytical skills and attention to detail
- Thorough, astute and resourceful
