**Major Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Dietary Supervisor, the Food Production Analyst supports the day to day operations of the Nutrition Services Program for Toronto Early Learning & Child Care Services (TELCCS) section within the Children's Services Division.
- Assists with the planning and delivery of high quality safe nutritious meals and snacks for approximately 2300 children (ages 0 to 4) at over 40 TELCCS locations.
- Supervises the day to day operations of all assigned Nutrition Services staff including the scheduling, assigning and reviewing of work. Authorizes and coordinates vacation and overtime requests. Monitors and evaluates staff performance and recommends training to Nutrition Services staff.
- Participates in the hiring process for Nutrition Services staff, provides support and direction in the area of Labour Relations, including discipline, grievance procedures and attendance management.
- Ensures centres comply with all public health and Divisional standards, and other legislative requirements for food production including inspecting food service work areas within all TELCCS locations.
- Liaises with centre supervisors, staff and the caterer and grocery vendors to ensure that the provision of meals and snacks meet needs of children and their families including consulting with staff and parents to respond to children's special dietary or nutritional needs.
- Ensures that the Nutrition Services program complies with all the provincial legislation.
- Assists in menu planning for children (ages 0 to 4) following Canada’s Food Guide, Childcare and Early Years Act (CCEYA) special dietary requirements, reflects the diversity of the client population and the City.
- Supports evaluation of nutrition service program and assists in data analysis using surveys, review of inspection reports, etc.
- Monitors and controls food service operation inventories, and processes food orders for the centres using food ordering software.
- Provides input to and administers assigned budget, confirming that expenditures are controlled and maintained within approved budget limitations as it relates to food production.
- Participates in the development, revision and evaluation of the Nutrition Services policy and procedure manual.
- Coordinates the testing, evaluation and costing of new products, recipes and menus.
- Assesses contract compliance regarding equipment repairs, catered food services, food, chemicals, paper and small-wares.
- Identifies emerging issues, service priorities and makes recommendation regarding the delivery of food.
- Assists in providing TELCCS staff with nutrition educational program activities for children (ages 0 to 4) at the TELCCS locations that are sensitive to diverse communities and supports anti-bias program development.
- Oversee the gardening program and other planting and local food initiatives for classroom programming activities.
- Arranges service calls with contracted companies for repair and continued preventative maintenance of equipment, and good working condition of equipment.
- Participates in designing kitchen facilities to ensure efficiency and safety regarding the food services component of the TELCCS program.
- Facilitates staff meetings and training, participates on committees/workgroups with internal/external stakeholders to review/enhance programming and services for the children (ages 0 to 4).

**Key Qualifications**:

- Must have current and valid membership in the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management.
- Education and/or training in Food Services Management or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Considerable experience in large scale food preparation and service in an institutional setting or environment (i.e. hospital, Long Term Care (LTC) Home, nursing home, etc.), including experience in menu planning and delivery.
- Experience supervising staff in an institutional food service environment (i.e. hospital, Long Term Care (LTC) Home, nursing home, etc.).
- General knowledge of nutritional care needs of children (0 to 4 years of age) including special diets.
- Knowledge of food service management, methods, materials and equipment used in large scale food preparation and service.
- Knowledge of sanitary standards for food service areas and personnel.
- Working knowledge of collective agreements, government legislation in the areas of food handling and sanitation, labour relations, employment, occupational health and safety and human rights.
