Peel Cheshire Homes Inc. (Peel Cheshire House) is a non-profit, charitable organisation in Streetsville, Ontario. Peel Cheshire House provides adults with disabilities, with a focus on acquired brain injuries, affordable, accessible housing and support services in a congregate setting.

We are looking for a full-time, part-time or casual Personal Support Worker. The Personal Support Worker (PSW) will provide support services to our residents in their activities of daily living. The chosen PSW will enhance the quality of life of the residents by providing physical support care, social development and assistance in directing self-care. In addition, the PSW will provide an environment that will encourage the residents to develop to their fullest potential in all areas of life, in support of the vision, mission, and values of Peel Cheshire House.

The PSW will report to and is under the general supervision of the Supervisor.

**Responsibilities**
- Making certain that care is provided to each resident in a flexible and individualized manner, respecting the resident’s choices for activities of daily living. (for example: showering or bathing)
- Performing personal care, which may include bathing/showering, grooming, hygiene, mouth care, dressing, undressing, assisting in transfers, and toileting.
- Preparing meals and assistance with feeding as required
- Being familiar with equipment used for resident care.
- Homemaking duties including housekeeping and laundry.
- Respecting the privacy of the resident, maintaining confidentiality and respecting personal issues and lifestyles of residents, families and co-workers.
- Sharing important information with residents, their guardians and staff to maintain an effective and efficient communication system. This includes Peel Cheshire Homes Inc.’s established reporting and recording procedures.
- Developing job-related knowledge and skills by making use of training and learning opportunities and participating in all mandatory training.
- Maintaining a warm and friendly atmosphere in the house.
- Dressing and speaking in a professional manner.
- Promoting teamwork among all staff, residents and management, for example: sharing shift chores equally, exchanging information at shift change and participating in meetings
- Maintaining familiarity and compliance with the Policies and Procedures of Peel Cheshire Homes Inc.
- Working within the Occupational Health and Safety Act and reporting any known health and safety hazards or violations to the Supervisor.
- Practicing universal precautions and using protective devices/clothing required by Peel Cheshire Homes Inc. (for example: wearing gloves or masks)
- Reporting any unsafe working conditions, equipment malfunctions and repair needs.
- Adhering to the Drug and Alcohol guidelines of Peel Cheshire Homes Inc.
- Arriving and leaving work at proper times, reporting appropriately with respect to absences and maintaining an acceptable level of absenteeism
- Articulating ideas and opinions in a clear and tactful manner. Listening and respecting others' points of view, being sensitive to others and responding at a professional level.
- Taking initiative above and beyond assigned tasks.
- Representing Peel Cheshire Homes Inc. in a positive manner.
- The above duties are not all-inclusive and the employee will also perform other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor

**Qualifications**
- PSW certification
- Standard First Aid and CPR certificate required. It is the employees’ responsibility to maintain this certification.
- WHIMIS training is required within 3 months of hiring. Re-certification annually henceforth.
- Food Handling Certification offered through the Region of Peel is required within 6 months of hiring. (Exception: PSW students who have previously taken the Food Handling Course). Re-certification every 5 years.

Pay: $20.00-$22.00 per hour
